Stockholm post-punk band V**gra Boys (**= "ia" because of spam filters) announced a new album last month, and today they’re back with the next single. “Uno II” redirects vocalist Sebastian Murphy’s take on conspiratorial anxiety—shifting from human meat bags to finding it embodied in his beloved dog. The Italian greyhound, Uno II, spent a year going back and forth to the vet with dental issues, and Murphy couldn’t help but imagine what the dog must be thinking. “He goes to this place, then wakes up in some weird room, and he’s missing his teeth,” he says. While Murphy never explicitly suggests that “Uno II” is a stand-in for the anarcho-primitivist meme obsessives and conspiracy theorists he’s skewered in the past, the connection is hard to miss. Over chiming sweeps of guitar, drummer Tor Sjödén’s shimmering shuffle, and whispers of Oskar Carls’ flute, Murphy briefly turns the obsessive thoughts inward: “I seem like such a bitch / When I talk about Swedish politics.” The song arrives with a video where Shrimptech Enterprises' star journalist, Sebastian Murphy is sent on assignment to cover a seemingly innocent dog show in Eastern Europe. But as the trip unfolds, he finds himself under constant surveillance, shadowed by unseen forces, slipping deeper into paranoia and madness. His Croatian veterinarian may hold the key to his fate—but is he a sinister manipulator or a desperate ally? As reality fractures, the story spirals into a gonzo journalistic glitch, blurring the line between truth and delusion. Directed by Sebastian Murphy and André Jofré, “Uno II” was recorded guerrilla-style across Czechia, Finland, and Sweden. The track follows the first single, “Man Made of Meat.”

Available April 25th via their newly launched label Shrimptech Enterprises, v**gr aboys was co-produced by frequent collaborator Pelle Gunnerfeldt with the V**gra Boys. The album channels the band’s sharp observational humor and unique ability to dismantle everything and nothing at the same time, while juxtaposing real life with high art. The album cover, featuring an original artwork painted by Leo Park, digs further into that concept.

In 2022, the band released their third album Cave World, the volcanic satire taking shots at the conspiracy theorists and anti-vaxxers that surrounded him. That album  saw the band’s Late Night TV debut via Jimmy Kimmel Live! along with coverage from the likes of NPR, Pitchfork, Fader, V Magazine, Needle Drop, and so much more. With v**gr boys frontman  Murphy has shifted focus inward. “The whole political thing was exhausting,” Murphy admits with a chuckle. “This is like a self-titled album but a bit simple and stupid—because that’s how I am.”

The band recently announced their infinite anxiety tour of 2025. The tour kicks off at Coachella on April 12, followed by a stint across Europe and the UK in April and May. They’ll then return to the U.S. and Canada for their first headline shows in the territory in two years, beginning September 10 in Vancouver. The 23-date North American leg includes stops in Chicago, New York, Atlanta, and many more (full dates below). Tickets for the tour on-sale now.

Today, Bella Union has released Boy in a Bubble, the latest single from Nell Smith’s posthumous debut solo album Anxious due out April 11. The song is a psychedelic celebration and thank you note to Wayne Coyne of The Flaming Lips, who opened the doors for Nell’s first work. Synth riffs, psychedelic guitar and Lips-esque production accompany whimsical lyrics describing their collaborative journey and friendship. The accompanying video was produced by leading creative agency Firmative and features footage of Nell, Wayne and The Flaming Lips’ awe-inspiring live performances.

The fund aims to raise $100,000 and award $10,000 every year for ten years with profits from the release going directly into the fund’s corpus. Posthumous record releases will always be charged with emotion but when the release comes from a 17 year-old artist that was just getting started it’s heartbreaking beyond expression. Anxious is a mesmerizing selection of songs that explore the highs, lows and uncertainty of teenage life through the eyes of Nell and is the follow-up to Where The Viaduct Looms, her debut collaboration with The Flaming Lips that explored the works of Nick Cave. Guided by the talented Jack and Lily Wolter of Penelope Isles, who helped shape Nell’s songs, some of which had been in the works since she was twelve years old, the result is an album brimming with emotion, playful melodies and a depth that hints at what Nell’s future may have held.

“It is still very painful when I realize Nell is gone”, says Wayne Coyne. “I keep thinking I’ll check my text messages from her. I’m sure she has a new drawing or new piece of a song or a new photo of her cat… and then I remember she is gone. Now when I’m listening to her singing these songs there is a brief fantastical joy. Her voice hits the ear, the ear tells brain this is the sound of love, the brain lets the mind fly through the billions of connections it has with Nell’s life... but as it flies it also flies to her death... there is something holy that happens now.”

A lot of Nell’s creative drive was rooted in raw teenage emotions; apprehension; love; travel; gratefulness; ambition; and grief. These moods are visited throughout the tracks on the album with an instrumental approach that brings joy into even the darkest of songs.

ECCA VANDAL: Fearless Multi-Disciplinary Artist Shares Empowering Post-Punk Track

INTRODUCING…

ECCA VANDAL

FEARLESS MULTI DISCIPLINARY AUSTRALIA-BASED

SOUTH AFRICAN-BORN SRI LANKAN ARTIST

CRUISING TO SELF SOOTHE

HEAR NEW TRACK FEATURING HER SIGNATURE BLEND OF

OUTSPOKEN NEW WAVE + COARSE PUNK

Ecca Vandal Press Photo by Sean McDonald

Introducing Ecca Vandal, the multi disciplinary artist known for her fearless genre-bending sound. She epitomizes creative multiplicity — a rebellious and tenacious voice with an explosive shot of adrenaline. Today, fresh off a recent tour supporting IDLES, she shares her bold new single, “Cruising to Self Soothe.”

Listen to "Cruising to Self Soothe” here: https://onerpm.link/cruisingtoselfsoothe

The new song boils with Ecca Vandal’s signature blend of outspoken new wave and coarse punk. An overt display of influences in a hybrid sound entirely of her own, listeners can hear nods to Nirvana, Fugazi and Turnstile. “Cruising to Self Soothe” sees Ecca tightening the screws with sharper hooks, starker storytelling, and anthems for yelling into the night. “You look better when I don’t look back” she proclaims on the defiant “Cruising to Self Soothe,” as she continues trudging a renegade path.

“‘Cruising to Self Soothe’ is about cultivating your inner strength when navigating life on your own, even when it feels a bit isolating,” notes Ecca. “It's about that pivotal moment when you recognize that you're stronger without the people who were weighing you down, and there's a real sense of empowerment in that for me. It captures the feeling of breaking free and moving forward, no matter the challenges that come. Even when others are waiting for you to fall, you're still rising — stronger than ever.”

Ecca’s recent releases are her first in several years and include last fall’s “BLEED BUT NEVER DIE” and “THEN THERE’S ONE.” “Cruising to Self Soothe” is her third release after “taking a bit of a breather for my heart, health and art.” In the few months since entering this new era, Ecca’s performance reels have skyrocketed her social media following and generated substantial online buzz.

A musical auteur, Ecca Vandal defies categorization, seamlessly weaving together punk, hip-hop, jazz, soul, trip-hop, and electronic influences into a sound that’s bold, dynamic, and entirely her own. Spending her formative years as a jazz musician, her passion for improvisation led her to fall in love with the DIY abandon of punk and foster an ability to effortlessly balance soulful melodies with raw, unapologetic power.

South African-born with Tamil heritage and an upbringing in Naarm/Melbourne, Australia, Ecca Vandal strutted her way onto the musical landscape in 2016 in traditional punk-style with an edgy disposition and something to say. Ecca brings unrelenting energy to the stage with a history of touring alongside global heavyweights such as Queens of the Stone Age, Incubus, Idles and The Prodigy, as well as appearances at a host of iconic festivals including Download, Reading and Leeds Festivals in the UK, AfroPunk in France and Splendour in the Grass, Falls and Laneway Festivals in Australia.

Neither her sound nor persona are fixed for easy consumption. Political, rebellious and tenacious, with a voice demanding to be heard — Ecca Vandal is magnetism personified and exactly what we need right now.
