Today, Agnes Obel releases the second of a series of four live videos filmed during one of her Sold Out shows at Brooklyn’s National Sawdust venue in January of 2020. Produced by long-term collaborator and partner Alex Brüel Flagstad, the video for “Island Of Doom,” taken from this Spring’s album release, accompanies the themes within the album perfectly and continuously follows on from the official videos for “Island Of Doom,” “Broken Sleep,” and “Camera’s Rolling.”

Two more videos from the series, all live performances of songs taken from Myopia, will be released in the coming weeks via Blue Note Records in the US, and Deutsche Grammophon in the rest of the world.

Obel (on piano and vocals), plays alongside her all-female live band: Anne Bakker (Viola, Vocals & Mellotron), Louise Duggan (Percussion & Vocals) and Kristina Koropecki (Cello & Vocals).

I have treated the footage by rescanning it several times. The footage was sent through different monitors where it was re-filmed by an old tube camera. I like how the tube (in the tube camera) makes a ghostly tracking effect out of movements and the light and how the tube overall softens the image with this old TV technology that looks like a mixture between super-8 film and VHS. For me it makes a sort of nostalgic fog, that hopefully leave space for the music.” - Flagstad

For me Myopia is an album about trust and doubt. Can you trust yourself or not? Can you trust your own judgments? Can you trust that you will do the right thing? Can you trust your instincts and what you are feeling? Or are your feelings skewed?” - Obel.

Nicolas Bougaïeff Announces New Album "The Upward Spiral"; Listen To "Thalassophobia"

NICOLAS BOUGAÏEFF

ANNOUNCES DEBUT ALBUM FOR MUTE

THE UPWARD SPIRAL
OUT JULY 24

Berlin-based producer and artist Nicolas Bougaïeff today announces details of The Upward Spiral, his debut album for Mute. The album is out on July 24 on digital and limited double blue vinyl formats.

The announcement is accompanied by the first track, “Thalassophobia”, whose nosebleed kicks and synth bleeps betray the track’s deeper meaning: “It’s about looking inwards. It’s a Greek word that means fear of depth, actually literally it’s fear of water, but it’s the fear of unfathomable depths,” Bougaïeff explains. “I’m pointing to the fear of depths; both literal and metaphorical. It’s a beautiful word that has attracted me going back years.”

Pre-order The Upward Spiral here.

On his new album, Bougaïeff reframes familiar tropes for his own mind-expanding vision of body music. Punishing industrial techno charges the album at surface level with beautiful-meets-bleak energy. But peel back the layers of brash ferocity and there’s a hell of a lot more going on than first meets the ear. The culmination of years of hard work, Bougaïeff grew the album from the seeds of a bespoke composition technique; a carefully thought-out studio experiment in how to bend a love of techno into innovative new shapes.

Across nine metallic misadventures, which Bougaïeff describes as “little open scores”, he blitzes drum patterns and sharp synthwork into a satisfyingly effective blend. Intricate rhythmic structures lurk beneath the “strawberry jam” of the surface aesthetics. This rhythmic illusion seeps into every crevice of a record that brings a slice of academia to the rave.

On the creeping mutation of “Nexus”, gabber, IDM and drum ‘n’ bass collide. “Flying High” soars with bright melody, taking the ear to new places while assuming the form of an ambient trance shapeshifter with echoes of martial drumming. “Positive Altitude” picks up where the previous track left off, but goes even deeper into hard, hypnotic trance. Distortion rusts at the corners of “Inward Megalith”, while the title track takes the minimal route. “Inexadorable” is the most unrelenting and sinister-sounding track on the record, except Bougaïeff’s intentions for the album sing to the tune of optimism and commitment rather than nihilism and destruction.

The Upward Spiral continues Bougaïeff’s decades-long love of club music, a love that has compelled him to challenge conventional wisdom, delivering genre-busting Berghain sets that expertly blend French-Canadian hip-hop with Tchaikovsky, moody techno and ambient. Launching his debut record as a producer in 2013 – the Movements EP with Max Cooper – Bougaïeff has since put out a string of singles on labels including minimal techno imprint Trapez and an EP on novamute in 2017, Cognitive Resonance.

Today, Mt. Joy share “Death” from their forthcoming album Rearrange Us, out June 5th on Dualtone Records. The track finds singer/songwriter Matt Quinn finding solace among the living as his bandmates create a bar-band rattle that transforms into the most fraught “ooh la la las” you’ll hear all week. Listen to “Death” here:http://MtJoy.lnk.to/RearrangeUsAlbum

Says Matt Quinn (vocals, guitar) of the new track:

"I’m not suicidal, but I think we’re constantly being reminded of our mortality and at times I’m at least aware of the peace that comes with death. I was hoping this song would remind people and myself that there are so many family members/friends here on earth that want to help us find our peace, and there really is so much beauty here, especially when you let people help you.”

Additionally, tonight Mt. Joy present their Mt. Joy & Friends Instagram livestream to raise money for MusiCares and Philabundance. Guests include The Lumineers, Rainbow Kitten Surprise, Liz Vice, Houndmouth, Phildelphia Flyer Nolan Patrick, former Philadelphia Eagles player Connor Barwin, and many more. Braids Share New Single "Just Let Me"; New Album 'Shadow Offering' Out On June 19th via Secret City Records

Braids Share New Single "Just Let Me"
Music Video Directorial Debut by Singer Raphaelle Standell-Preston

New Album Shadow Offering
Out On June 19th via Secret City Records

April 30, 2020 - Montreal-based indie trio Braids will release their new album Shadow Offering on June 19th via Secret City Records. Co-produced with Chris Walla of Death Cab For Cutie, the album finds the band at their most personal, unabashedly flexing a new sense of confidence through songs that reach a higher level of artistry and collaboration. Today they shared their new single "Just Let Me," a song that explores the push and pull of a relationship, the narratives created between partners, and inevitable hardships of love. The accompanying video features singer Raphaelle Standell-Preston's directorial debut with collaborator Derek Branscombe.
Watch "Just Let Me" HERE.
Shadow Offering is available for pre-order/pre-save HERE.
"The song was born of a desire to get through to one's partner, to work through those feelings of complacency, stagnation, of pointless arguments; when you feel your partner, though sitting across the table from you, is further away than if they were not there at all," stated the band. "It's a yearning to understand how a love that was once there and so clear, could slip away. It asks the universal question that so many relationships encounter along their journey - where did our love go?"
Raphaelle continued, "I am grateful to have been able to explore this very question with two incredible dancers and dear friends Stephen John Quinlan, Justin De Luna, and choreographer Axelle Munezero. It was an emotional yet liberating experience - a lot of sweat, tears, and laughter went into this. I have to say, it's one of the things I am most proud of having a part of."
A luscious and expansive release, Shadow Offering leads us through a sonic tapestry of narrative. With heartbreaking honesty and precision, listeners traverse a nuanced and complicated world: one full of beautiful contradiction. Although the album directs itself at the failures of people to love and be loved, it also seeks to restore justice and attain blissful union. It's arc crests through the dark towards the light and learns how to dance with the dizzying rhythms of the heart. The songs bubble, sustain, dissolve, expand, and retract.
"Just Let Me" follows the release of "Snow Angel," a powerful opus that features Raphaelle's most visceral performance to date as she leans passionately into her anger, diving deeper into frustrations and anxieties about her internal and external worlds. The FADER stated, "The whole thing builds to a frantic final third in which the chaos and confusion is palpable."
Lead single "Young Buck" is also out now, an effervescent ode to impossible love that exudes an undeniable magnetism. It was praised by PitchforkThe New York TimesThe FaderMTVStereogum, and Consequence of Sound who called it "a bouncy good time; in the tug-of-war between mind and matter, these pulsing synths are clearly on the side of the body."
Last fall they released "Eclipse (Ashley)," a song that sinks deep into a feeling of reverie for nature, the love found in friendship, and the vital essence of personal reflection. The New York Times raved "Raphaelle Standell-Preston sings with openhearted earnestness" while Stereogum named it "one of the best Braids songs ever, a power ballad built from cascading pianos, off-kilter rhythms, and a rising surge of atmospheric strings."

Groove Armada new single out today + first album in a decade to follow

GROOVE ARMADA SHARE NEW SINGLE
‘GET OUT ON THE DANCEFLOOR’
VIDEO FILMED IN LOCKDOWN ACROSS THE GLOBE FEATURING ROSE MCGOWAN, SOPHIE ELLIS BEXTOR & MORE
THE FIRST NEW GROOVE ARMADA ALBUM IN A DECADE FOLLOWS LATER THIS YEAR

As Groove Armada, Tom Findlay and Andy Cato are undeniably one of the most influential forces in dance music and embellished in the fabric of UK music history. After hinting at new material over the past few weeks, the duo has shared the first new single from their album and accompanying video.

‘Get Out On The Dancefloor’ is a fresh and potent sound for the band in 2020. The lead single of the new album, it features Empire of the Sun and Pnau frontman Nick Littlemore, whose stream-of-consciousness vocals on the track merge with Groove Armada’s slick grooves to create unrivaled and infectious energy.

The duo had accumulated hundreds of extracts of Littlemore’s vocals and painstakingly edited them together into something fresh and vibrant. Cato recalls, “As I went through the recordings of Nick, I realized there were lots of cool phrases and great deliveries we could use. It took a very long time to find the right order for them, but once we had that line ‘Get out on the dancefloor, it felt vibey. Slotting the music underneath was the easy bit!”.

The video features cameo performances filmed by Groove Armada super fans in isolation from lockdown across the globe. They include US actress Rose McGowan, Brit singer Sophie Ellis Bextor and UK drag star Davina De Campo, plus an army of TikTok’s biggest names.

Out today on BMG, ‘Get Out On The Dancefloor’ previews Groove Armada’s long-awaited new album, their first studio LP since 2010’s landmark ‘Black Light’.

"Smoke" - New Single from Jess Williamson

"Smoke" out Now!

The latest from Sorceress out May 15th

"Smoke" is the third single from Jess Williamson's forthcoming record Sorceress. A deep country rock ‘n roll burner, "Smoke" sees Williamson describing a relationship that's falling apart. Beginning with delicate finger picking and alluring vocals, the song rises with flourishes of muted percussion, lilting pedal steel, and piercing electric guitar. It's Jess Williamson at her diaristic and transcendent best.
"Smoke" Music Video
In the video, directed by Williamson and filmed at home on her iPhone during quarantine, lit incense is the main character—its smoke sets the stage for an animated mushroom dance (by Alex Tults), a la Fantasia. The video speaks to the stir craziness we're all feeling in quarantine, and it very much emerged from that space: Working with what she had on hand, Williamson put on a funny outfit she found in her closet, grabbed her phone, danced around with incense, and lost her mind a little bit.

"This song is about a codependent relationship. It’s told from the perspective of the person who keeps giving and giving, and, on some level, they like it” - Jess Williamson

UK's Sea Girls release new EP 'Under Exit Lights' out today, March 6

ANNOUNCE HIGHLY ANTICIPATED DEBUT ALBUM
 OPEN UP YOUR HEAD

OUT AUGUST 14 ON ISLAND RECORDS

UK AUTUMN TOUR INCLUDES LONDON O2 ACADEMY BRIXTON

The UK’s Sea Girls are excited to announce the upcoming release of their debut album Open Up Your Head - out August 14 on Island Records. The emotionally charged, deeply personal, hook laden debut album features fourteen doses of memorable jagged guitar-pop brilliance. The LP was produced by Larry Hibbitt in London. Open Up Your Head will be available in special colored vinyl, limited edition picture disc, CD, cassette and digital.

Today also sees the band share a brand new single from the album entitled “Do You Really Wanna Know?” which premiered as Annie Mac’s “Hottest Record” on BBC Radio 1 last night, and follows the brilliant “Ready For More.”

With album Open Up Your Head, the band’s songwriting has elevated, with frontman Henry Camamile stepping into the spotlight as a genuine storyteller for his generation. The album is an explosion of joyous indie rock held together to reflect Camamile’s darker songwriting on topics such as a previous traumatic head injury, the anxiety that ensued, and resulting adolescent vices. In accessing those darkest and least comfortable parts of himself the record becomes one of hope.

The bastard sons of The Killers and The Strokes, Sea Girls is CamamileRory YoungAndrew Dawson and Oli Kahn. They have created a debut body of work, including songs from lead guitarist Rory Young, that are stunningly uplifting, ferociously reflective, delicately vulnerable, and most importantly - brutally honest.

Henry admits his and Rory’s writing – and the bands performing – comes right from the heart. With storytelling being reminiscent of a young Brandon Flowers Henry explains; “I don’t buy all the love and flowers stuff. Real relationships fall apart, you get hurt and you have to deal with it so you do what you have to do to get over it. I think what has saved me is music.”

Renowned for their frenetic, sweat-drenched performances, 2019 saw Sea Girls playing their debut live shows in the U.S. to packed rooms in both New York City and Los Angeles. While stateside the band headed to Paste’s NYC studio for a session - watch that HERE.

Off stage, their success is further driven by their energetic, uncanny ability to write adrenaline-heavy guitar anthems with songs like "Violet" and "All I Want To Hear You Say", and the release of their latest EP Under Exit Lights

"Sea Girls play the kind of anthemic rock that makes you want to put one fist in the air and the other hand around your best bud." NPR

“deceptively upbeat” Consequence Of Sound on “Ready For More”

"'Ready For More' already displays songcraft that most bands only manage on their third or fourth album, suggesting that Sea Girls are in for one hell of a career." PopMatters

“infectious jagged life songs” Northern Transmissions

"It doesn’t take long to see why the band has been causing such a stir overseas." We All Want Someone To Shout For

their latest gem is a perfect way to get hooked by their sound...With this exquisite and mesmerizing blend of melodies and visuals they deliver something unique and strangely surreal while still feeling to so down to earth...There’s something about it that feels so real, so raw and beautifully and perfectly intoxicating that you can’t help but want and need more of it.
Wolf In A Suit on “Ready For More”

" The song’s energy is infectious not to mention how catchy the chorus is."
Surviving the Golden Age on “Ready For More”

"...six more tracks that lift you off your feet and encourage uninhibited singalongs in any given social situation." Punktastic

"their live shows have a real punch... consisting of out and out bangers" - Clash

"Ridiculously catchy indie-rock ringing through your ears" - Dork

"songs that get stuck in your head all day" - DIY

“They’re one of the few guitar bands with a fighting chance to catapult themselves up the festival line-up bills in no time. It’s going to be sweaty, chaotic and a whole lot of fun” - 100 Essential New Artists for 2019 NME

Sea Girls will kick off their rescheduled April UK dates by upgrading the venues to play their biggest headline shows to date in November 2020, it will see them play 3 upgraded venues including a career defining night at London’s legendary O2 Brixton Academy on November 6. Before that, the band will light up festival stages across the back end of summer, including prestigious spots at Reading & Leeds, TRNSMT, Spain’s Mad Cool, Berlin’s Lollapalooza, and more.
