ANDY SHAUF IS ON TOUR NOW + ANNOUNCES FEBRUARY 2019 DATES
“a lush-sounding dose of ’70s-style folk rock” - BrooklynVegan
“[Andy Shauf is] a phenomenal storyteller and I love his sense of melody
and his voice.” – Robin Hilton, NPR Music
and his voice.” – Robin Hilton, NPR Music
“Silky rock-pop … a Mac Demarco-like swing to the riffs and chords” – Northern Transmissions
Growing up in scattered small towns across the Canadian prairies, the band Foxwarreninitially bonded over Pedro the Lion and drew influence from The Band and Paul Simon. Comprised of Andy Shauf (guitars/keys/vocals) and his childhood friends Dallas Bryson (guitar/vocals) and brothers Darryl Kissick (bass) and Avery Kissick (drums & percussion), Foxwarren’s self-titled album comes out today via ANTI- Records; listen and order it HERE. Captured on 16 mm film, the new music video for the song “To Be” features zoom shots done in the style of Wes Anderson that focus in on characters who appear alone in expansive spaces. Watch it HERE.
“Sometimes the simplest ideas are the hardest to execute,” explained the video’s directors, Ft. Langley. “Our concept for ‘To Be’ – featuring tryptic of introspective portraits – came together at the 11th hour, despite having been originally written a year and a half ago. Locations fell through, actors dropped out, gear malfunctioned; what could go wrong did go wrong. Yet the final film manages to reflect, in its own scrappy way, the heartbreaking loneliness of Foxwarren’s song, despite breaking our own hearts a little along the way.”
“To Be” was one of the first songs written for the project. “We tinkered with it for ages and ended up drastically reworking it the weekend it was recorded, but we knew early on that it was going to be the opening song on the record,” Darryl said.
“It was a guitar riff that I'd been playing for a few years at least, trying to figure out what to do with it,” adds Shauf. “It went through quite a few versions if I remember correctly. Foxwarren have a bad habit of never finishing vocal melodies and lyrics before we finish the music, so it made it a bit tricky and ended up being overhauled at the last minute.”
Watch the band perform select tracks from the album at Toronto’s Starlight Diner for CBC Music First Play Live HERE. Shauf is currently on a fall solo tour and will perform in Los Angeles on December 2 and 3. He has also announced February 2019 tour dates that include Montreal, Jersey City, New Jersey and Buffalo, New York. All upcoming dates are listed below.

Kevin Morby released his beloved solo debut album Harlem River five years ago, and to celebrate its anniversary, Woodsist Records will be releasing a special remix 12-inch featuring a new extended version of the title track and two remixes by Peaking Lights. The record will be out December 6 digitally, with a vinyl release to follow later in the month.
"I wanted to do something to honor the title track off of my debut album, Harlem River, turning 5 years old this year," says Morby. "It's been very good to me over the past half decade as well as a staple in my live show. I've asked Aaron from Peaking Lights to breath some new life into it and give it a remix... I wrote the song to be about new explorations, and it continues to give me - year after year - just that." Today Morby shares one of the remixes:

Morby will be playing at Gold Digger's in Los Angeles on December 6, performing "Harlem River" for an hour with special guests Meg Duffy, Kyle Thomas of King Tuff, William Tyler, Eric Johnson of Fruit Bats, Rodrigo Amarante, and Aaron Coyes of Peaking Lights. Tickets are $5 at the door, and proceeds will go to California Community Foundation's Wildfire Relief Fund.

Shares New Single “All For You” w/ BrooklynVegan
"the ethereal vibes allow room for the listeners’ own creativity...beautiful" – BrooklynVegan
Today, visionary scratch DJ and producer Kid Koala (aka Eric San) announces the much-anticipated second volume in his Music To Draw To ambient/vocal collaboration series.Music To Draw To: Io is a sprawling 70 minutes of transportive music featuring singerTrixie Whitley on six of its eighteen tracks. The album is slated for release on January 25, 2019 on Arts & Crafts and is available for pre-order now. In advance of the new double LP, Kid Koala has shared the first single “All For You” featuring Trixie Whitleytoday via BrooklynVegan. About the new collaboration, San comments:
“Trixie Whitley is a phenomenon, truly a force of nature. She's able to dive down and channel something truly profound and personal. I've witnessed her in that zone on stage but didn't know what would happen in the studio, especially over this type of musical backdrop. We spoke briefly about the narrative of the album before recording. She was able to make each of the song’s characters her own, giving them a voice to a level that surpassed anything I could have ever imagined. Her singing can be sweet and nurturing, bold and powerful, or chilling and sinister, but it's always Trixie Whitley. The emotional range she achieves on these tracks is just awe inspiring to me.”

Io is a constellation of electronic meditations that glint with Whitley’s otherworldly blues. The singer and multi-instrumentalist, describes working with Kid Koala as “an encounter like falling in love between collaborators.” Transcendently personified by Whitley, Kid Koala’s heartrending lyrics channel the turbulence of the modern global psyche, using the story of Io from Greek mythology, an unwilling mortal lover of the Greek god Zeus, as its compass. Composed entirely by Koala on an array of synthesizers, including the trove of rare instruments at the National Music Centre in Calgary, Io reflects the boundless reaches of Kid Koala’s imagination, but more importantly his unique capacity to inspire and provide space for others to be a part of the creation. Says Whitley:
“In the making of Io, I discovered the depth of Kid Koala as a thinker, creator, and artist – a term I shy away from – with the incredible ability to invent artistic dimensions filled with uncanny characters. He has a director’s mind with the vision of an architect, who has created a beautiful sonic space for these wonderful and vulnerable emotions to thrive.”
Inspired by music that allows space for the listener’s own ideas, the Music To Draw Toseries is an unfolding universe of soundscapes and enchanting vocal journeys, set against a melancholy backdrop of space travel and melancholy love stories. Whitley recalls being captivated by the “rich emotional core” of 2017’s Music To Draw To: Satellite, which featured vocalist EmilÃana TorrÃni, and received praise from Pitchfork, Bandcamp, VICE, and more. The album series originally grew out of Kid Koala’s community art/ambient events (held annually and now in their 10th year), and has spurred the Satellite Turntable Orchestra concept, both of which San tours globally.
Music To Draw To: Io is available on 2LP vinyl and deluxe sketchbook w/ CD via Arts & Crafts. Pre-order here.
Earlier this year, Kid Koala released the Floor Kids Original Video Game Soundtrack, a 42-track soundtrack featuring 71 minutes of original hip-hop and breaks music from the award-winning Floor Kids video game (on PS4, XBOX, NINTENDO SWITCH, STEAM), adding another dimension to the universe of multimedia projects San has built over his 20 year career. He has toured with the likes of Radiohead, Beastie Boys, Arcade Fire, A Tribe Called Quest, and DJ Shadow, has contributed to film scores and soundtracks for Baby Driver, Scott Pilgrim vs. The World, The Great Gatsby, Looper and Men, Women and Children. He has composed music for Adult Swim, Cartoon Network, Sesame Street, and the National Film Board of Canada. This year, Kid Koala won the Polaris Music Heritage Prize for his 2001 debut album Carpal Tunnel Syndrome.

Lola Kirke's heartrending song "Monster" was the first single released from her debut album Heart Head West and was hailed by Rolling Stone as "a declaration of wanting to fit into the world." Today, Lola is sharing a new acoustic version of the track. "Monster (Acoustic)" is premiering on Aquarium Drunkard, who also interviewed Lola. "I definitely think acting and songwriting come from a similar place," she says. "With songwriting, it's just more available to me. I don't have to wait until I find a character or I'm given a job that asks me to use that experience to enliven it. With songwriting, if I'm lonely or angry, whatever it is I want to express through songwriting, I can just do it."
Following her sold-out shows in the UK this month, Lola will return to California for three holiday shows in late December. Tickets are available HERE, and don't miss her just-released Christmas songs, "Cross You Off My List" and "Little Drummer Girl."
