The Pretenders release new video; new album out July 17

THE PRETENDERS REVEAL BRAND-NEW VIDEO FOR CURRENT SINGLE, "THE BUZZ"

NEW ALBUM, HATE FOR SALE, OUT JULY 17
The Pretenders have unveiled the brand-new video for their current single, "The Buzz," taken from their new album Hate For Sale, set to be released July 17 via BMG. Vinyl LP and CD pre-orders are currently available via the official Pretenders webstore.

Made entirely under lockdown, the video was produced and directed by the band’s longtime collaborator John Minton, who has also worked with the likes of Noel Gallagher, Portishead and Savages previously.

Produced by the revered Stephen Street (The Smiths, Blur) Hate For Sale is The Pretenders’ 11th studio album. It's the first album to be recorded with the now long-standing touring line-up of the group and the first to be written collaboratively by Chrissie Hynde and electrifyingly dynamic guitarist James Walbourne.

Last week, the band released their latest song, “You Can’t Hurt A Fool,” available now at all DSPs and streaming services.

The audio for “The Buzz” as well as the title track, “Hate For Sale,” has also been released recently. “The Buzz” was met by immediate acclaim by Rolling Stone and Stereogum, who enthused, “‘The Buzz’ is the kind of world-weary shimmer that the Pretenders have always been great at…Hynde’s craggy, seen-it-all vocals haven’t really changed in the past four decades, and neither has her sharp, intuitive songcraft.”

“Hate For Sale” followed and was greeted by equivalent applause, with SPIN writing, “Dueling guitars and high energy beat, the song will quickly take you back to the heydays of the punk era – a time that the band really loves.” The new LP’s title track “finds The Pretenders – Chrissie Hynde in particular – channeling their inner riotous punk rock selves,” raved Consequence of Sound. “The lead singer and guitarist’s vocals heard here are flung out with an attitude that alternates between haphazard shrug and in-your-face statement.”

The Pretenders most recent album, 2016’s Alone was a critical success and a welcome return for the line-up, coming eight years after 2008’s Break Up The Concrete. The band supported Fleetwood Mac on their UK stadium tour in June 2019, which included two shows at Wembley Stadium.
