Following yesterday's release of new single "Off The Gridfeaturing Khalid, which also premiered on Zane Lowe's Beats 1 Radio show, singer-songwriter and genre pioneer Alina Baraz has released her eagerly-awaited debut album It Was Divine on Mom + Pop. The 16-track studio album features frequent collaborator and friend Khalid, along with highlighted new collaborations with 6lack, Smino, and hip-hop legend Nas. Showcasing the ultimate muse of cupid with her most sophisticated and elegant body of work to date, It Was Divine finds Baraz seamlessly displaying her sleek poetry within narrative themes of feminine identity and experience; the narrator here secure, confident and hopelessly optimistic in a way never before seen.
It Was Divine is Baraz at her most confident and mature, with a perspective that can only come from experience and a willingness to try again while leaving the daydreams and naiveté of young love behind. On her album's ideology, Baraz puts forth "This album gravitates around love and self. Losing it then finding it. A stream of thought, a shift in my perspective. It's learning how to take care of myself. Nourishing what's real. Learning how to let go. Learning how to let love in."
Baraz alluded to new music last fall with the surprise birthday release of "To Me", an uplifting song about letting go, healing, and moving on. As 2020 began to unfold, Baraz shared a couple singles in preparation of the album's release, including "More Than Enough" and "Morocco" featuring 6LACK, two standout singles. Most recently, Baraz surprise dropped her single "Endlessly" which was followed by the news announcement of the album's new April release date.

Baraz earned wide-spread acclaim in 2015 with the release of her EP Urban Flora. The project sold over 100K units and remained in the Top 10 on iTunes Electronic charts for over 150 weeks. In 2018, Baraz released her follow-up project and Mom + Pop debut, The Color of You, featuring the massive single "Electric" featuring Khalid. Baraz later performed at Coachella and went on to join Coldplay on the sold out North American leg of their Head Full of Dreams stadium tour. To date, Baraz has amassed over 2.19B streams across the world - a benchmark accomplishment for an artist who has quietly become one of the most standout voices of a generation. Without traditional radio or press campaigns, Baraz has become a name at the forefront of a new musical landscape, led by listeners around the world on democratic internet platforms. Her incredible streaming and sales numbers and devoted fanbase are a testament to the credit she deserves for helping shape a new sound in a genreless world. All while Baraz was standing back and letting the music speak for itself.
