The Damned: Don't You Wish That We Were Dead coming to home video on May 20th

The Damned - Don't You Wish That We Were Dead
coming to home video on May 20th via MVD Entertainment Group
Featuring Chrissie Hynde, Dave Gahan, Lemmy, Mick Jones, Billy Idol and more...

Check out an exclusive clip courtesy of VICE Noisey

After packing cinemas and collecting rave reviews around the world, THE DAMNED: Don't You Wish That We Were Dead is coming to home video on May 20th.

Hailed as "excellent" by Uncut, "fascinating" by The Arts Desk, and "funny, fast-moving and gloriously chaotic" by The Hollywood Reporter, the film was directed/produced by Wes Orshoski, and is the first fully authorized documentary on punk pioneers The Damned.

Ireland's Hot Press raves: "Orshoski came onto our radar with the acclaimed Lemmy documentary in 2011 [which he co-directed/produced] and has once again created a tour de force, presenting an entertaining and searingly honest depiction of the grievously overlooked punk legends."

Filmed around the globe over three years, and world-premiered at SXSW 2015, THE DAMNED: Don't You Wish That We Were Dead tells the story of the third prong in the holy trinity of U.K. punk. In advance of both the Sex Pistols and the Clash, The Damned was the first U.K. punk band to release a single (1976's immortal "New Rose"), the first to release an album ('77's frenetic Damned Damned Damned), and the first to tour America (planting their flag at CBGB in April 1977). Now in their 39th year, The Damned are the only band from London's 1976 Punk Rock Big Bang still touring the world today.

In addition to Damned founders Captain Sensible, Dave Vanian, Rat Scabies and Brian James, the film includes appearances by such one-time bandmates as The Pretenders' Chrissie Hynde, Mick Jones (The Clash) and Lemmy Kilmister of Motörhead, as well as such rock and/or punk luminaries as Nick Mason (Pink Floyd), Glen Matlock (Sex Pistols), Steve Diggle (Buzzcocks), JJ Burnel (The Stranglers), Dave Gahan (Depeche Mode), Billy Idol, Ian MacKaye (Minor Threat/Fugazi), Jello Biafra (Dead Kennedys), Keith Morris (Black Flag/Circle Jerks/OFF!), Dexter Holland (The Offspring), Jack Grisham (T.S.O.L.), and more.

Taking its name from the title-track of the Damned's 1979 album, Machine Gun Etiquette, the film charts the band's unique history, bitter infighting and legendary bad behavior (drummer Scabies is blamed for creating punk's "gobbing," or spitting, phenomenon); it takes viewers into the toilets once scrubbed by Captain Sensible and viewers follow the Damned on their world-wide 35th anniversary tour in 2011 -- with estranged band founders Scabies and James seen on screen answering that trek with a snarling celebration of their own. In a bizarre twist of fate, other former members find themselves being treated for the same form of cancer by the same doctor in the same Welsh cancer ward; elsewhere, the band's founding members are seen grappling with their legacy, and the fallout from missed and/or bungled business decisions that have kept them painfully working class for most of the past four decades.

The Arts Desk: "Where many music documentaries have a similar dynamic arc-rise, fall, rise again-Don't You Wish That We Were Dead is a fascinating, rambling saga that emanates a rich, sometimes morose, sense of what it's really like to have a whole life defined by the oh-so-brief explosion that was punk rock."

In the bonus features, Captain Sensible takes viewers on a tour of Croydon, the south London town that gave rise to the Damned, and he busks on the streets of Hollywood with actor/musician/comedian Fred Armisen, a huge Damned fan. Elsewhere, the full story of the band's involvement and eventual ousting from the Sex Pistols' fabled Anarchy in the U.K. tour of 1976 is told in detail for the first time.

In the film, The Damned is credited with helping to ignite the punk scene in America. In 1977, the Damned were the first of the U.K. punks to play in both New York (at CBGB) and Los Angeles (at the Starwood).

In 2010, The Huffington Post's Binky Phillips recalled the band's U.S. debut at CBGB in early April 1977: "I was down at CBGB with a chip on my shoulder. My town was Punk Ground Zero.... I was, in fact, without a struggle, reduced to fan boy within 30 seconds. It was as if the entire evening proceeding them had been in black and white and suddenly we were thrust into Technicolor Oz."

The Damned kick off a West Coast tour in April, which includes two appearances at Coachella (April 16 & 23), as well as stops in San Francisco (April 14, Great American Music Hall); Solana Beach, CA (April 19, Belly Up); Pomona, CA (April 20, The Glass House); and Los Angeles (April 21, The Roxy).

The band officially kicks off its 40th anniversary tour on May 20 with a sold-out gig at The Royal Albert Hall in London.

Olga Bell releases video for "Randomness" and announces new album "Tempo" [out 27th May]

OLGA BELL - TEMPO LP
RELEASED 27TH MAY [ONE LITTLE INDIAN]
FIRST SINGLE "RANDOMNESS" AVAILABLE NOW
US TOUR DATES ANNOUNCED
56fd2701c195e1459431169.jpg
"Grand compositional ambitions and a dynamic voice…the arty, adventurous edge of pop" - The New York Times
"Mesmerizing, eventful, and strange" - Pitchfork
"…some of the most unfettered and joyful music that contemporary music has to offer." - NOWNESS
"Magical" - Noisey

One Little Indian is set to release Olga Bell's new album Tempo on 27th May. Lead single "Randomness" recently received "Best New Track" at Pitchfork after it was premiered by Dummy, who described the house-influenced track as "the fuel of self-manifestation." The Minister Akins-directed video premiered yesterday on i-D, who says of the track, "if you're anything like us, you've probably had [it] stuck in your head since it surfaced earlier this month." The video is available to watch and share here (full video credits at link). The track is available for instant download with album pre-order.

Written, produced and performed by Bell, Tempo is her third LP—following 2014's Krai and 2011's Diamonite—and features contributions from vocalist Sara Lucas and longtime collaborators Jason Nazary and Gunnar Olsen. See below for track list and a selection of live dates, with more to be announced.

"This record is first for the body, then for the mind," says Bell, who began writing the album immediately after seeing the film Paris Is Burning. "I started every song by thinking about tempo specifically, listening to the metronome alone, feeling its relation to my body, to the pace of the day, the weather, the light. On fast days I listened to club music, most of it at least twenty years old, and on slow days I turned to early West Coast hip-hop and Portishead because of how physically charged and compelling these records feel despite their low BPM."

The highly anticipated LP follows the October release of Incitation, a five-track EP described by NOWNESS as "a perfect platform for Bell's remarkable voice, mirroring the unflinching, self-analyzing lyrics." Pitchfork went on to praise Bell's "muscular voice" and "knack for arrangements that are simultaneously refined and overwhelming," while The New York Times lauded her "forthright, supple melodies to hold everything together, and a voice—creamy, vibrant, sensual—that makes all her conundrums startlingly immediate."

Born in Moscow and raised in Alaska, Bell is a composer, producer and performer based in Brooklyn. A prodigious classical pianist as a child and teenager, Bell graduated from Boston's New England Conservatory before moving to New York City to pursue electronic composition and songwriting. In 2011 she received a Jerome Fund Grant from the American Composers Forum to aid in the completion of her first large-scale composition, Krai, which was released as an album in 2014 after a sold-out premiere at the Walker Art Center in Minneapolis. The New York Times describedKrai as "at once a folkloric study of her homeland and a contemporary exercise in electronic production." Bell continues to perform Krai, most recently premiering a new arrangement with the Grammy-nominated string orchestra A Far Cry at Boston's Isabella Stewart Gardner Museum.

FEHER Shares Moody New Single "Silence"

TEL AVIV BROODING, SONGSTRESS FEHER SHARES NEW SINGLE / VIDEO FOR
"SILENCE"
FEHER is thrilled to share the music video for her new single "Silence."

Following in the footsteps of her first single "False Appetite,"  "Silence" is another example of FEHER's ear for crafting emotional pieces of dark, atmospheric, electro-pop.

The music video, beautifully directed by Sergey Maydin, captures FEHER battling a physical embodiment of her demons and depression, expressed through actress / dancer Roni Michaeli, in the middle of a desolate desert.
Tel Aviv artist FEHER got her start touring with the avant-guarde electronic projectKOKORO. After the death of her mother in 2011, she began writing songs describing the thin line between innocence and sin, sadness and joy and light and darkness. Those songs have become the basis for her debut album which will be released early 2016.

Band of Skulls' new album By Default due May 27 + "Killer" video premieres

BAND OF SKULLS’ NEW ALBUM BY DEFAULT SET FOR RELEASE MAY 27 ON BMG

VIDEO FOR “KILLER” PREMIERES

U.K. rockers Band of Skulls will release their new album By Default May 27 on BMG, their debut with the label. “Killer,” the first song to be revealed from the record, is receiving early critical praise, with Consequence of Sound admiring its “surge of sawtoothed guitars.” The song is available now with album pre-order. The video for “Killer” premieres today, watch it here: https://BoS.lnk.to/KillerVideo.

Produced by Gil Norton (Pixies, Foo Fighters, Patti Smith) and recorded in Rockfield Studios, By Default is the follow up to 2014's Himalayan which Rolling Stone hailed as “supremely heavy” while Village Voice furthered “Cool enough for hipsters, heavy enough for metal heads, smart enough for muso snobs, Band of Skulls succeed in striking that oft-elusive aural sweet spot for fans of all stripes.”

The record came about via a conscious decision from the British trio to take a step back from their relentless worldwide touring schedule (having never spent more than a month off the road in the last 2 years) to decamp to and write songs in a Southampton Baptist Church-turned-makeshift HQ.

“We went back to square one,” says Matt Hayward. In the church—between visits from the vicar, bringing tea and biscuits on his trolley—they found the new songs in hours of woodshedding on ratty old practice amps. “It’s definitely a new era,” says Russell Marsden. “The first three records were like a trilogy, a piece of work in of themselves. We wanted to do those things, and we did them all. We took a breath, took a look at what we’d done, and started from scratch again.”

Band of Skulls is Russell Marsden (guitar, vocals), Emma Richardson (bass, vocals) and Matt Hayward (drums).

Tancred's "Violently Catchy" LP streaming at The FADER- Out Friday on Polyvinyl

TANCRED’S NEW ALBUM OUT OF THE GARDEN
OUT THIS FRIDAY, APRIL 1ST ON POLYVINYL RECORDS

NOW STREAMING IN FULL AT THE FADER

ON TOUR NOW

Out Of The Garden, is a full-on blast of power pop with an angry shadow behind it. Lead singer and songwriter Jess Abbott's voice sounds like it came straight out of 1999; she's got those perfect, subtly nasal pipes that sound like the sweetest, chewiest, most long-lasting bubblegum.” - THE FADER

Out of the Garden is just phenomenal… this to me feels like a breakthrough,
I feel like they’ll have a good year.”
- NPR Music

You can sense the catharsis in this song’s defiant, retrospective lyrics and aggressive guitar parts. On top of that there’s the grungy, almost surf-rock bass parts, upbeat drum patterns, and crisp vocals, all of it strongly communicating Abbott’s message.”
- Stereogum (on “Sell My Head”)

Going by first single, ‘Sell My Head,’ she’s rocking harder than ever.”
- Brooklyn Vegan

‘Control Me’ is a phenomenal song, driving and personal and impossible to keep out of your head.”
- USA Today FTW

Tancred and Polyvinyl Records are excited for fans to hear the new album, Out of the Garden, streaming in full now at THE FADER ahead of its April 1st release. Produced by That Dog’s Anna Waronker and Off!/Redd Kross member Steven McDonald, Out of the Garden has already been hailed as a “phenomenal” new album by NPR Music, with lead single “Sell My Head” being praised by Stereogum for how it “simmers with a uniquely bold energy” and most recent single, “Control Me,” receiving USA Today’s seal of approval with the declaration, “If you’re a fan of The Breeders (and how could you not be?) this is a song you will love.” Tancred are in the midst of a national spring tour in support of the album. Upcoming tour dates below.

Pre-Order Out of the Garden via Polyvinyl Records

Written over a two-year period during a break from touring, Out of the Garden’s emphasis on re-defining feminine expectations was shaped by primary songwriter Jess Abbott’s experiences living in Minneapolis and working at a liquor store in a rough part of town. “I learned how to speak up when I needed to and how to truly be myself without reservation,” Abbott recalls. “I felt afraid walking home at night, and after a couple of months I just got sick of it and started getting into self-defense and self-empowerment as a means of coping. Finding my own strength changed everything.”

After writing and tracking every song in her apartment, Abbott enlisted Kevin Medina and Terrence Vitali to add drums and bass to her demos. The band then traveled to LA to record with McDonald and Waronker. As a result, Out of the Garden showcases Tancred shedding its former skin in favor of a bolder and infinitely more confident sound. Says Abbott, “Out of the Garden represents doing what you want, what you need, without letting anything or anyone stop you - and smiling while you do it.”

Upcoming tour dates below.
