Magdalena Bay shares new tracks “Unoriginal” and “Black-Eyed Susan Climb”

Don’t think too hard about it,” says the band. “Just let the good times ride.” The band returned last month with “Second Sleep”—featuring an official video directed by Amalia Irons––and “Star Eyes.” Together, the double single marked the first new music following their universally acclaimed sophomore album Imaginal Disk and served as a spiritual successor to the LP. A second pair of complimentary songs, “Human Happens” and “Paint Me a Picture,” were unveiled shortly after—listen HERE. The new music garnered immediate praise from Stereogum, Pitchfork, Consequence, NYLON, The Fader and Hypebeast, among others. Magdalena Bay has taken the Imaginal Mystery Tour to festivals including Portola Music Festival, Austin City Limits and III Points, plus massive headline shows at Los Angeles’ Hollywood Forever Cemetery and Washington DC’s Anthem with a slew of dates across the U.S. They will continue to Orlando’s Mad Soul Festival in early December, followed by a New Year’s Eve show at Denver’s Mission Ballroom that will conclude their North America run. They will kick off legs across the United Kingdom and Europe in February with support from Allie X. Featured on Best of 2024 lists from The New York Times, Rolling Stone, Vulture, Pitchfork, Stereogum, Vogue, Paste Magazine—which named single “Death & Romance” the #1 song of the year—and more, Imaginal Disk found Magdalena Bay selling out every date of their North American and European/U.K. headline tours. In celebration of the LP’s one-year anniversary, Magdalena Bay teased the release of the long-awaited album movie. Directed by Amanda Kramer and written and edited by Tenenbaum and Lewin, the film elaborates on the world of Imaginal Disk. The band revealed elements of the story in the videos for “Death & Romance,” “Image” and “That’s My Floor,” as well as in their performance on “Jimmy Kimmel Live!” and on the road on the Imaginal Mystery Tour. Magdalena Bay is the Los Angeles by way of Miami duo consisting of Mica Tenenbaum (vocals, producer, songwriter) and Matthew Lewin (producer, songwriter). The two first met at an after-school music program in Miami where they grew up, bonding over shared musical influences and eventually starting a prog rock band Tabula Rasa. That band broke up, but when Tenenbaum and Lewin crossed paths again in college, they reconnected with the goal of making something closer to pop music that blends retro and futuristic elements under the moniker Magdalena Bay.
