More on Still Corners Strange Pleasures:
Riding that insatiable kinesis over the last two years has resulted in Hughes, along with singing accomplice Tessa Murray, fashioning a devastating sophomore album, Strange Pleasures, which is surely destined to usher Still Corners to a deserved place at cerebral dream-pop’s high table. Where its predecessor soared on sugared layers of shoegazing-infused retro-futurism, Strange Pleasures proffers a leaner, more acute extrapolation of ’80s-suffused song and studio craft, navigating a sinuous trajectory between velveteen Angelo Badalamenti noir-pop torch song sophistication and ethereal Cocteau Twins beauty, with exquisite meanders through the glacial but mellifluous territory first mapped by Modern English, The Cure and The Passions, with nods along the way to cool, graceful detachment a la ’80s Euro avant-poppers such as Bernthøler and Virna Lindt (read more at Sub Pop).

What people are saying about Still Corners:
"Another dreamy, widescreen pop gem"  - ["Berlin Lovers" Track Post] Gorilla Vs. Bear

"Fireflies"... is no less beholden to the past-- only, this time, the band's drawing from the spangly, huge-sounding sounds of 1980s synth-pop. The change suits them well, as it's their most immediate and starry-eyed song to date, with Tessa Murray's multi-tracked vocals navigating their way through gorgeously empty terrain dotted with cymbal washes and gently pulsing synth tones.” - [“Fireflies” Track Review, "Best New Track”] Pitchfork

“Called “Fireflies,” the tune leans closer to 1980s dance music than previous atmospheric offering, Creatures Of An Hour. It’s still full of the band’s signature dreaminess.” - Under The Radar

“...A wonderful surprise” - [“Fireflies” Track Review] Refinery 29

Ron Asheton Tribute Concert

Ron Asheton Tribute Concert
with Iggy & the Stooges + Special Guests
Coming to DVD on April 9

Live concert tribute to brother Ron Asheton featuring
the Stooges, Henry Rollins and more!

Recorded live at the Michigan Theater, this heartfelt tribute/celebration of Stooge guitarist Ron Asheton's life and music featured Iggy and the Stooges, Henry Rollins, and guest guitarist Deniz Tek (Radio Birdman). Includes a string section on a few Stooges classics! All profits from the sale of the DVD go to the Ron Asheton Foundation which supports animal welfare and music.

Gary Graff of BILLBOARD writes:

"It was a typical night of Stooges-style brutality but in an even more passionate form, as the group and its guests took a wide swing through the repertoire, clearly moved by the sense of occasion and the cacophonous spirit of the 1,700 fans who snapped up tickets for the concert in less than an hour.

"Some of his (Asheton's) themes always reminded me a lot of...classical music in the 17th century," Pop told Billboard.com prior to the show -- emcee Henry Rollins fronted the band for "I Got a Right." Pop then came on to commence a full-on Stooges performance with co-founder and drummer Scott "Rock Action" Asheton, "Raw Power" guitarist James Williamson, longtime saxophonist Steve Mackay and Mike Watt, the group's bassist since 2003.

Shirtless and manic as always, even two days before his 64th birthday, it didn't take Pop long to turn the theater to bedlam. Following pulverizing renditions of "Raw Power," "Search and Destroy" and "Gimme Danger," Pop brought dozens of fans on stage for "Shake Appeal," clearly reveling in the ecstatic anarchy of the moment. The rest of the night maintained the energy through favorites such as "Beyond the Law," "1970" and "Fun House," the "ballad" "Open Up and Bleed" and a rendition of "I Wanna Be Your Dog" beefed up by an 11-piece orchestra.

The ensemble stayed on stage as Radio Birdman's Deniz Tek, a longtime Asheton friend, spelled Williamson for "T.V. Eye," "Loose," "Dirt" and "Real Good Time," while Williamson returned for a new acoustic composition called "Ron's Tune," in which Pop sang that "the music says you'll be my friend to the end" and "because you were my friend, I always think of you again." The night finished with everyone, including more audience members, onstage for "No Fun" -- whose title, of course, was the antithesis of the experience."

GLISS RELEASE FIRST OF FIVE LIVE ACOUSTIC VIDEOS

GLISS RELEASE FIRST OF FIVE LIVE ACOUSTIC VIDEOS
CAMPAIGN KICKS OFF WITH "INTO THE WATER"
February Residency at Los Globos in Los Angeles
For Private Media Access Only Stream the Album Here
As they continue to topple alternative specialty radio charts, Los Angeles trio, Gliss, is pleased to release a live session video of their track "Into The Water." This is the first in a series of five acoustic videos the band will be releasing via Under The Radar Magazine every Monday over the next five weeks. According to the band, the videos were "filmed on a cold and rainy California day far up in the mountains," and the chilled mood is evident through the cascading images and sounds. Gliss is currently in the midst of their Monday February Residency at Los Globos in Silver Lake, Los Angeles, see dates below. Their newest album, Langsom Dans, was recently released via Modern Outsider.

As previously announced, download "Hunting (C-Berg Remix)" here.

Danish/American band Gliss makes a huge departure from their old sound on the new record Langsom Dans which is gathering comparisons to Beach House, Crystal Castles and Lower Dens. The LA based trio, consisting of Victoria Cecilia, Martin Klingman and David Reiss, pour their collective musical imaginations into recording timeless art pop with a precise Scandinavian texture that steps away from their previous work. The 12-track LP features heavy synths and electronic beats with Danish expatriate, Victoria Cecilia, stepping into the role as lead singer. The passionate vocal harmonies dictate the recordings with stories of coming out of the darkness into a new life, bringing to mind The XX, Portishead and Depeche Mode.

Blood Red Shoes announce North American headline tour

Schedule additional dates in support of The Joy Formidable

Premiere video for "Silence and the Drones" via NME

from In Time To Voices

Watch: "Red River"
from Water EP

Brighton's Blood Red Shoes return to North America for the second time in six months for five shows with The Joy Formidable and a coast-to-coast headline run.

The duo of Laura-Mary Carter and Steven Ansell have been busy in the studio as well: they released their third full-length In Time To Voices in July of 2012, and the Water EP dropped just last month via V2 / Cooperative Music. January also saw the re-release of their first two records, Box of Secrets & Fire Like This, also on V2 / Cooperative Music.

For a taste of the pair's bombastic live shoes take a peak at the new video for explosive track "Red River". The video contains live and on-the-road footage of the band's recent tour in Russia, which saw the band encounter the full force of the Russian Customs officers, travel through snow after shows, and spark mosh pits in Moscow and St Petersburg.

Expect the same level of excitement from the restless outfit this time around. "We planned to spend most of 2013 working on new material after touring like motherfuckers last year," says drummer/vocalist Steven Ansell. "But we realized that we'd go insane if we stayed in one place too long. Plus the last North American tour we did was a blast and kind of inspired us with new songs anyway. So we're heading back over for a few weeks again, hitting some familiar places and breaking some new ground too. It'll be cool to play the songs off our new EP because some of them were actually inspired by our time on the road in North America in late 2012."

Tera Melos announce North American tour dates

Tera Melos announce North American tour dates with TTNG, stream first song from forthcoming album

Tera Melos
"Once in a rare while an album comes along that's so fresh and ingenious it redefines what's possible in a field of music. It's been some time since a trio armed with guitar, drums, bass and vocals have shattered the boundaries of convention and pushed the limits of their instruments and compositions like a graceful tsunami of invention." -- Exclaim!

"Akin to the type of freak-pop perversion dished out by daring pioneers like Devo and The Flaming Lips." -- Wired

Sacramento's genre-benders Tera Melos announce extensive North American tour dates with Sargent House label mates, Britain's This Town Needs Guns (now simply called TTNG) beginning in April. Tera Melos will be supporting their forthcoming album, X'ed Out, as will TTNG promote their new full length 13.0.0.0.0. Please see complete dates below and specific details (tickets, times, etc) for the shows for Tera Melos HERE and TTNG HERE.

Tera Melos recently premiered a new song from their forthcoming album, X'ed Out via Rolling Stone. The track, "Tropic Lame" is also available for streaming/sharing HERE. Cover art and full track listing below.

Truly great art is that which can't be easily understood and dissected, but immediately resonates nonetheless. Tera Melos' new full length, X'ed Out is just that kind of adventure. The songs transcend in a way that makes you want to sit friends down to hear it, not only to share the experience, but perhaps in hopes that together you can create the world in which songs like this can be defined. It hits mental buttons and flicks internal switches that you never knew existed, while cleverly obscuring the technical precision for which the band has been known. It's remarkably multifaceted, incredibly catchy and perplexing to unravel exactly how it all works.

"It's like visiting a friend who lives on the 14th floor of a building with no elevator, yet he has a grand piano in his apartment," explains bassist Nathan Latona. "How did he get it there? Was it carried up 14 flights of stairs, assembled on site or what? This record is the piano in the apartment with no elevator. We wanted to do all of the tricky stuff in a way that doesn't seem noticeable."

X'ed Out is the culmination of an arc begun on Tera Melos' first proper full-length, Patagonian Rats (Sargent House, 2010) -- a supercollider of 60s pop hooks, Minutemen garage-prog, post-punk evisceration, wiry psychedelia and nearly everything else in-between. Here, the Sacramento based trio burns and simmers simultaneously while situated somewhere without benefit of location services. It's a nowhere land, X'ed Out of the grid, both inviting and daring. Join us.

From the very first fluttering notes of album opener "Weird Circles" it's clear that we're encountering an entirely new Tera Melos. Guitarist/vocalist Nick Reinhart's steady, rhythmic palm-muted strumming and Latona's nimble counter-melody glide the song through the ether like Tangerine Dream with stringed instruments. Reinhart's soft falsetto vocals hover at the forefront until drummer John Clardy's propulsive beat kicks in short, sharp jolts with wailing noise leading up to a triumphant crescendo. Elsewhere, "Bite" soars with a chiming harmonized guitar drone smeared over repetitive, mechanical sounding rhythms. Haunting Beach Boys style "do do do" vocals lead in to the bubbly, rapid-fire notes of "Sunburn" before erupting into the unabashed pop hooks of the chorus. Mellower moments, like the swooning guitar drone and vocal harmonies of "No Phase" and threadbare-yet-bludgeoning "Melody Nine" show just how richly developed the band's musical palette has become. "Tropic Lame" sounds almost reminiscent of Goo-era Sonic Youth's maligned guitar melodies -- skronking, ringing, bending -- while the whole band lean into their instruments to create a massive haze of joyful noise.

"I'd initially wanted to make a really simple and minimal record," Reinhart says. "But our minds wander way too much, so when the songs came to life, they raged a little more than expected. In the process, it became clear that to move forward we needed to think less." Clardy agrees, "we're not trying to bludgeon people over their heads with technicality. It's more deceptively simple."

X'ed Out will be available everywhere April 16th, 2013 on LP, CD and download via Sargent House

TODD RUNDGREN NEW ALBUM ‘STATE’ & US TOUR

TODD RUNDGREN NEW ALBUM ‘STATE’ & US TOUR

Prolific musical experimenter, premier league pop craftsman, tireless producer,
runt, wizard and true star Todd Rundgren will release his new studio album
‘STATE’ on the Esoteric Antenna label via Cherry Red on Tuesday, April 9th.

‘STATE’ is Rundgren’s 24th solo studio album (and that’s not including the 2
albums he recorded with his first band the Nazz, and the 9 albums he recorded
with his band Utopia!).

Todd’s latest musical vision is a fusion of rock, soul, r’n’b and electronica
that is at once danceable, groundbreaking, spiritual, challenging and
infectious.

The full tracklisting of the album is:

TODD RUNDGREN: ‘State’

Imagination
Serious
In My Mouth
Ping Me
Angry Bird
Smoke
Collide-A-Scope
Something From Nothing
Party Liquor
Sir Reality

To coincide with the release of ‘STATE’ Todd will set out on a world tour, which
will touch down the US in May.

The full list of shows is:

May 05 – Woodstock, N.Y., Bearsville Theater
May 08 – Norfolk, Conn., Infinity Hall
May 10 – New York, N.Y., The Gramercy Theatre
May 11 – Philadelphia, Pa., Trocadero Theatre
May 12 – Huntington, N.Y., The Paramount
May 14 – Kent, Ohio, The Kent Stage
May 15 – Pittsburgh, Pa., Rex Theater
May 16 – Columbus, Ohio, Lifestyle Communities Pavilion
May 18 – Cincinnati, Ohio, Bogart's
May 19 – Chicago, Ill., Park West
May 20 – Minneapolis, Minn., Varsity Theater

Born and raised in Philadelphia, Todd Rundgren began playing guitar as a
teenager, going on to front The Nazz, the quintessential `60s psychedelic pop
group. In 1969, he left the band to pursue a solo career, recording his debut
Runt. But it was 1972's seminal Something/Anything? on which he played all the
instruments, sang all the vocal parts, and acted as his own producer, that
catapulted Todd into the limelight prompting the media to dub him “Rock's New
Wunderkind.” It was followed by such landmark LPs as Todd, The Hermit of Mink
Hollow and A Wizard A True Star.

In 1974, Todd formed Utopia, who were on the cutting edge of progressive rock in
the 70s and developed into a very tidy power pop outfit into the 80s.

Rundgren's career as a producer has included seminal albums by The New York
Dolls, Patti Smith, Cheap Trick, Psychedelic Furs, XTC, Hall And Oates and one
of the best selling albums of all time, Meat Loaf’s Bat Out of Hell. Sealing his
reputation as rock's Renaissance Man, Rundgren composed all the music and lyrics
for Joe Papp's 1989 Off-Broadway production of Joe Orton's Up Against It (the
screenplay commissioned by The Beatles for what was meant to have been their
third motion picture), as well as the score for Dumb and Dumber and a number of
television series, including Pee Wee’s Playhouse and Crime Story.

Todd’s annual musical summer camp, this year celebrating his 65th birthday and
dubbed Toddstock v6.5, takes place near New Orleans on June 17-22.
