BARRY ADAMSON today announces details of a new EP,
Steal Away, set for release via Mute on
November 5.
The EP launches with the first new Barry Adamson music to be released since 2018’s anthology,
Memento Mori. Listen to
“Broken Moments” here.
Written and recorded at the time when Adamson was writing his memoir
Up Above the City, Down Beneath the Stars – due to be published on
September 30 via Omnibus Press – the EP became an intrinsic part of the book writing process. He explains,
“The book is the past, the record is the past present. I needed to write it to get through the book, to stay present.” The memoir is a powerful story written in Adamson’s distinct cinematic-noir style, taking the reader through a series of harrowing, tragic, funny, and often life-affirming tales, with music always at its core and, as Adamson explains, the EP is
“a further exploration of myself, the man outside, taking country jazz and blues idioms as the language.”Written and recorded by Adamson at the Murkyworld / Jupiter studios in London and Brighton,
Steal Away’s artwork is by Mark Reynolds, chosen, Adamson explains, because
“his lighthearted Sixties pop feel perfectly offsets the trouble brewing underneath in the songs.”Adamson will embark on a series of book readings and signings throughout autumn. Full details below.
