FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE / August 31, 2021 — Ellen Foley and her band The Worried Men have announced a rare live appearance. To celebrate Foley’s Fighting Words album, released earlier this month, the group will perform at the Bowery Electric in New York City on October 22. Tickets are on sale now at Bowery Electric.

The release of Fighting Words has seen Foley receive some of the best notices of her career. Classic Rock Magazine called the album “Vintage jukebox Americana” while American Songwriter proclaimed “Fighting Words is one of the greatest and most passionately true rock albums in recent times. Ellen Foley is a remarkable singer of multitudes: the only one in history to star in a Sondheim musical and also sing with The Clash and Meat Loaf.”

In March 2020, Foley had made a brief return to the Manhattan stage for “Club Dada (In Difficult Times),” a two-person cabaret show co-written and performed with Robert I Rubinsky. “Club Dada” only managed a pair of performances at La Mama in the East Village before the engagement was cancelled on March 7 due to Covid-19.

Except for a handful of concert dates in Belgium and the Netherlands, the upcoming live show at Bowery Electric will be the first time that Foley has performed a full rock show in six years. Foley’s band will include her songwriter Paul Foglino (bass), Charly Roth (keyboards), Slim Simon (guitar), Mike Fornatele (guitar), and Tom Curiano (drums).

Foley also debuts a new video today from Fighting Words. Foley explains, "'Leave Him Janie’ is about dealing with someone who you thought was right, but you were wrong. I like that it can be interpreted as advice to a woman, man, or even a troubled nation.”

The video was created by Washington-based artist Christopher Olson utilizing footage shot by Taryn Elliott Photography.

In addition to Foley’s extensive musical discography, she has enjoyed a dual career as an actress, including roles in Hair (1979), Tootsie (1982), Fatal Attraction (1987), Married to the Mob and Cocktail (both 1988), and as a series regular on season two of NBC-TV’s Night Court (1984-1985).

PRASIE FOR ELLEN FOLEY'S FIGHTING WORDS

Fighting Words finds Foley in stunning vocal form and, like the title suggests, not backing down. This is no quiet rumination on past times, but instead an invigorating set of mostly uptempo, rocking material, Foley in the middle of it all sounding like she's just getting warmed up.” — Jim Beviglia / SONGFACTS

“Foley’s voice blends beautifully with duet partner Karla DeVito’s on ‘I’m Just Happy to Be Here’ which evokes the rip-roaring punk energy of Elvis Costello and The Attractions’ early days, albeit with a brighter lyrical outlook.” — Joe Marchese / THE SECOND DISC

“Despite long hiatuses between studio recordings, her distinct singing and energy still linger after ‘Paradise.’” — David Chiu / FORBES

Fighting Words is full of powerful tracks that prove Foley is far from mellowing.” — Katherine Yeske-Taylor / ROCK & ROLL GLOBE

Fighting Words captures more of the variety in Foley’s musical life, incorporating nuanced pop alongside thundering rock, elements of theatre and even country.” — Bernard Zuel / SYDNEY MORNING HERALD

“Packed with succinct, strong tunes, Fighting Words is a defiant piece of work, full of positivity.” — Paul Matts / SOMETHING ELSE REVIEWS

“A topical, timeless rock ‘n’ roll gem.” — Tom Haugen / TAKE EFFECT REVIEWS
