Yola also confirmed “Future Enemies” will be the first single from the EP, released on February 9. Yola will be taking this new music on the road, with a fan first touring experience, designed to give fans a first listen to the forthcoming EP. The My Way: An Intimate Tour will see Yola performing shows in limited capacity sized rooms across select cities including Racket in New York, The Atlantis in D.C., El Rey in Los Angeles, Terminal West in Atlanta and Basement East in Nashville, with tickets on sale on Friday January 19, further information below and here. Says Yola: “Welcome to my new era: a utopia of black creativity, freedom and power. I cannot wait for fans to hear my new music – written and conceived in rooms of diversity – inspired by music I’ve long loved from Janet Jackson to Anderson .Paak to Mary J. Blige. I’m taking these new songs on the road to play for fans to hear it first in intimate venues– true fans know I’ve always been genre-fluid, experimenting and reworking my catalogue through live performance to encompass my love of soul, R&B, electronica and beyond. If you’ve seen the shows you already know where this is heading. This new music is the culmination of that work. This project is also born of my desire to surround myself with creatives of color, to express myself on every level of making this music, and finally, to do this all my way.” The new EP titled My Way, is a reintroduction of Yola to the industry on her own terms and the latest genre fluid statement from an artist unbound by expectation, at her most creatively free. Yola's new music is a harmonious synergy of her most eclectic influences and is a sonic reset crushing any preconceptions in its wake. Tracks such as “Future Enemies” find Yola at her boldest sonically. Drawing on her most eclectic influences including progressive R&B, haunting electronica and dance floor ready synth pop. “Temporary” explores the fleeting nature of attraction on dance floor ready classic pop, “Symphony” mines Janet Jackson and En Vogue era R&B, “Ready” showcases timeless afrobeat and infectious pop grooves, and title track, “My Way” embodies the soulful synth pop of Anita Baker and Parliament. The EP also showcases her undeniable vocals which soulfully explore themes including relationship boundaries and knowing when a future relationship is doomed from the beginning. Yola is a six-time GRAMMY nominated artist, songwriter, and actor who has achieved critical acclaim, breakout success, and has been proclaimed as one of the most exciting and innovative artists in music today. NPR called her latest album, Stand For Myself (2021), the “best soul record of the past 20 years”, while Rolling Stone championed her as “one of contemporary pop’s greatest singers, who just so happens to also be one of its sharpest songwriters.” Yola made her acting debut as the founder of rock and roll, Sister Rosetta Tharpe, in Baz Luhrmann’s musical drama, ELVIS, and earned a NAACP Image Award nomination for Outstanding Breakthrough Performance in a Motion Picture. She made her awards show performance debut at the American Music Awards in November 2022, as their featured SONG OF THE SOUL performer. That same evening the ELVIS movie soundtrack won the "Favorite Soundtrack" award. Yola is a member of The Recording Academy’s Black Music Collective, and to celebrate Yola’s impact and influence on music, her guitar was included in the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame’s Right Here, Right Now exhibit.
