To celebrate the announcement, Isla Rose has shared her long-awaited second single “I’m Sorry” along with a gorgeous music video that highlights why this young and rising artist is so special. |
”’I’m Sorry’ was written during a time of reflection and freedom of consciousness,” explains Isla Rose. “While writing this song I would spend most evenings walking the streets of London and recording ideas that came to my head. The song goes from zero to one hundred, representing the whirlwind of emotions that flew threw my head during this time.” “I wanted the video to be at night, symbolizing those evenings where the music and energy was flowing through me. The outdoor scenes represent walking through London, whilst simultaneously the indoor scenes represent the chaos going on inside my head. The dancers represent my demons, never giving me a break and always pulling me down.” “The bridge lyrics “and my head is over spinning, but these voices are all so loud” reflect moments of tension, desperate to free myself from all of the pain and angst. Then finally, we reach the final chorus where I am on Southwark Bridge, finally releasing all of the energy I’ve bottled up.” “In the final moment of the indoor scene, all the dancers come around me at my feet as though I have tamed them. This represents coming to grips with my demons and how I now stand in a stronger position against my own mind.” |
Isla Rose - “I’m Sorry” “I’m Sorry” is Isla Rose’s second single to be shared from her upcoming EP No Answers. Last year, Isla Rose shared the introspective and irresistibly catchy track and video for “My Adeline”, which landed on two Spotify editorial playlists including Fresh Finds Pop and Cozy Blend. Speaking about “My Adeline” the artist writes: “My Adeline was one of the first songs that I wrote and began to produce. It started with a voice-memo of me hand-drumming a beat and singing a melody that was stuck in my head. This turned out to be the first verse and the pre-chorus for ‘My Adeline.’ It was like the song already existed...” “In the song, I am singing to My Adeline. My Adeline alludes to a past self - a younger, more naive, innocent me. Now a stronger, wiser, educated, traveled and worldly version of me is trying to communicate with her to steer her in the right direction and protect her from hurt. I’m trying to tell her I’ll be there through it all no matter what and keep her strong through the battles she’s facing.” “I wanted the video to be dark, replicating the time periods of my life that this song is referring to,” Isla says regarding the video. “There is a scene in the bridge with a projection of a small girl running on the beach who is a younger version of me, naive and innocent… it is a symbol of my older self attempting to guide my younger, more vulnerable self.” |
More on Isla Rose and No Answers… Isla Rose is a London-based, Louisville, Kentucky-born songwriter, musician, and producer. She began her musical journey as a drummer at the age of 11. Her real dream, though, was to one day make her own music. As a young teenager, her family relocated to Tupelo, Mississippi, the birthplace of Elvis Presley. In Tupelo, Isla’s love for music was heavily influenced and refined by her father, who loved rock and roll. During car rides together, he would give Isla a quarter for every song and artist that she could name that would play on the radio. Intrigued by the science behind sound, she decided to attend university in London for production and sound engineering, once again playing a support role in the songwriting process rather than leading it. After moving to London, Isla started getting into the pop and electronic scenes. The school she attended was focused heavily on electronic music and she was surrounded by mostly DJs. Her experience at clubs and festivals like Phonox, Corsica Studios, Glastonbury, and Lost Village further opened her eyes to the beauty and power of music and how it brings people together, creating amazing atmospheres and memories. These experiences inspired her to finally create something of her own. In March of 2020, without any prior melodic instrument experience, she took the first step towards the creation of No Answers and began teaching herself piano. “I think for so long I never thought I was good enough, or that I could write or produce,” shares Isla Rose. “It feels good to have overcome that insecurity and to have created something I’m happy with. I basically told myself, ‘fuck it, I’m gonna do it even if it’s terrible - I’m going to learn how to produce and write and see what I can do’... because that’s how much I love music. I wanted to create what was in my head. Hopefully, my story will inspire someone else who has the same insecurity to pursue their vision.” The music and lyrics on No Answers take a deep dive into the life of Isla Rose. The EP explores her personal relationships with music, insecurities, self-discovery, mental health, and spirituality. Within the four tracks on the EP, her influences can certainly be felt. From organic to electronic, indie to R&B, Isla has been able to compose a fresh sound with hints of nostalgia from her southern blues background. No Answers EP by Isla Rose will be released on March 10, 2023. *** FOLLOW ISLA ROSE: |
