Today, LA alt-pop group Cosmo Gold share their much-anticipated debut album, Krong: a record, yes, but also an intergalactic sonic experience, and invitation to an alternate universe. Welcome to ‘Krong’ - a place to find comfort in doubt as a virtue. A self-aware, almost-utopia that sheds light on the humanness of hesitancy. Because they say, ‘follow your heart’ - but what if your heart is wrong? In their debut album, Cosmo Gold explore an alternate universe built around this question.
The album is the result of a highly collaborative effort & was co-produced by the band and their longtime engineer, Neil Wogensen (Valley Queen) and mixed by Jason Kingsland (Deerhunter, Belle & Sebastian). The band and Wogensen were living together when the pandemic struck and felt compelled to dive deep into their imaginations as a form of escape.
The album follows the story of a protagonist astronaut who, disillusioned by earthly desires and the petty nature of ego, travels through a web of inner & outer doubt to discover that everything is temporary and the only “Sure Thing” is that “the answer is love” (From the closing track “Sure Thing feat. Paul Shaffer”). Along their journey we meet a cast of colorful characters including the ethereal Krong species (A little purple alien that the band has matching tattoos of), a sleazy Krongian salesman/preacher-type, and Golods (Ancient pyramid dwellers who guard the secrets of the Krongiverse).
Wonderland premiered the record, writing "the trio’s otherworldly explorations culminate in an alt-pop record that illuminates with poignancy and charm in this very reality... The ingenuity fostered when these three minds come together is evident upon the first listen of Krong, so much so it seems almost far-fetched that this could be the group’s debut." |
