GRACIE ABRAMS RELEASES MESMERIZING NEW SINGLE “21”
ANNOUNCES ADDITIONAL DEBUT NORTH AMERICAN HEADLINE SHOWS IN SAN FRANCISCO & LOS ANGELES
Santa Monica, California, February 20th, 2020 – Up-and-coming songwriter Gracie Abrams has released her mesmerizing new single “21.” Showcasing the 20-year-old artist’s magnetic vocal presence, “21” centers on the poetic yet plainspoken lyricism that’s earned lavish praise from tastemakers like The FADER and Pigeons & Planes. Written by Abrams and Sarah Aarons, and produced by Joel Little, “21” is available at all digital retailers now.
“Writing ‘21’ felt like a therapy session,” says Abrams. “It was everything I needed to say but couldn’t really, before being in that room. Working with Joel and Sarah, all I really wanted to do was sit back and watch them as I think they’re two actual geniuses, but after ten minutes of talking it became apparent to me that they’re such geniuses because of how comfortable and open they make you feel. Once we started writing it just felt like every sentence we spoke made its way into the song.”
With its graceful guitar work and dreamy beats, “21” reveals Abrams’s ability to capture a whole spectrum of emotion in her subtle delivery. Achieving a powerful intensity in its pounding rhythms and layered vocals, the track channels profound longing in its candid and confessional lyrics (e.g., “I’ll be the love of your life inside your head”).
Abrams has also just announced two more dates for her upcoming run of headline shows: a June 9th appearance in San Francisco, and a June 11th performance in Los Angeles. Tickets for both shows go on sale tomorrow. Previously announced stops include New York’s Mercury Lounge, which sold out in two hours.

June 4 New York, NY Mercury Lounge SOLD OUT

“21” arrives as the follow-up to Abrams’s spellbinding recent single “Stay,” whose video premiered last month and quickly drew acclaim from outlets like The FADER (who noted her “delicate voice and warm songwriting abilities”). Directed by photographer Moni Haworth, the “Stay” video collages together candid snapshots of Abrams’s everyday life, unfolding in home-movie-like images of spilled Slurpees, smoggy sunsets, beaches and birthday cake and fallen bougainvillea petals. Recently named an artist to watch by Pigeons & Planes and Idolator, Abrams — who considers herself a songwriter, first and foremost — fell in love with Joni Mitchell as a kid. "Her lyricism is very much what compelled me to start writing when I was 8, which is also when I started playing piano,” says Abrams, who lists Tyler, The Creator, Carole King, and The 1975 among her other major influences. Over the years, she’s shared homespun clips of her songs on social media, amassing over 200k followers on Instagram before she’d even released her first song. Last fall, Abrams made her official debut with the release of “Mean It” — an intensely vulnerable track hailed by Ones To Watch as “pure, sentimental, and undeniably beautiful.”
