The Invisible Way finds Low's majestic melancholy in full bloom yet distinguishes itself with its starker, unadorned soundscapes, layered harmonies and drummer/vocalist extraordinaire Mimi Parker singing lead on five of the 11 songs. The album tackles large issues ("the songs are about intimacy, the drug war, the class war, plain old war war, archaeology and love," says Sparhawk) in a manner that plays a stunning counterpoint to the sublime hush of the music.

The tracklisting for The Visible End is below:

1. So Blue (So Young)
2. Clarence White (demo)
3. Holy Ghost (demo)
4. Clarence What?

JOHNNY MARR ANNOUNCES NORTH AMERICAN TOUR DATES WITH STOP AT COACHELLA

JOHNNY MARR ANNOUNCES NORTH AMERICAN TOUR DATES WITH STOP AT COACHELLA
CRITICALLY ACCLAIMED SOLO DEBUT
THE MESSENGER DUE OUT FEBRUARY 2

Johnny Marr - The Messenger

Johnny Marr has just announced an 18-date North American tour in support of his highly-anticipated solo debut The Messenger (Sire/ADA) due out February 26. Kicking things off on April 11 in Las Vegas, the 3-week trek will include a stop at Coachella and two dates with New Order. Pre-sale tickets are now available: http://tixx1.artistarena.com/johnnymarr

Available for pre-order on iTunes, The Messenger is receiving overwhelming early acclaim. Time Magazine declares it "excellent," Details states it "harks back to the eighties with chiming, effects-laden guitars and dreamy vocals," and Stereogum proclaims "it's an album that - in both sound and style - hearkens back to Marr's early days." Similarly, The Guardian gushes "The Messenger sees him returning to the big tunes and unmistakable, cascading guitar arpeggios that made him the guitarist of his generation."

The release of The Messenger marks a significant milestone in Marr's distinguished career. First known for his work as the creative force behind The Smiths, Marr has spent the last two decades collaborating with a diverse array of acclaimed bands, including Talking Heads, Pet Shop Boys, The The, Electronic and more. One of the most celebrated and influential guitarists in the history of contemporary music, Marr was a member of the Modest Mouse line-up for 2007's We Were Dead Before The Ship Even Sank which debuted at #1 on the Billboard Top 200. Similarly, Marr joined The Cribs when they hit the U.K. Top 10 with their 2009 release Ignore The Ignorant. Throughout this time, Marr earned recognition as one of the greatest guitar players of all time from such outlets as Rolling Stone and SPIN. With The Messenger, Marr continues to evolve as he steps into the spotlight for the first true solo album of his career.

The 12-song set captures Marr's musical vision exactly as he imagined, featuring his signature guitar and vocals front and center on a sound that mixes elements of angular art rock, indie and rock n' roll. The Messenger was written and produced by Marr himself. Based in Portland, Oregon since 2005, Marr returned to the U.K. in early 2012 to commence work on the album. Recorded in Manchester and Berlin, it was mastered at Abbey Road by Frank Artwright who recently collaborated with Marr on the re-mastering work for The Smiths' box set Complete.

HANNI EL KHATIB SHARES NEW SINGLE "FAMILY"

HANNI EL KHATIB SHARES NEW SINGLE "FAMILY" VIA ROLLING STONE

ANNOUNCES SPRING TOUR WITH THE BLACK ANGELS

NEW ALBUM HEAD IN THE DIRT PRODUCED BY DAN AUERBACH DUE APRIL 30TH FROM INNOVATIVE LEISURE
Hanni El Khatib photographed by Nick Walker

After treating fans to a first glimpse of new song "Can't Win Em All" aired in Audi's commercial for their new S6 sedan during the Super Bowl this past weekend, Hanni El Khatib is back today to share the first full single from his new Dan Auerbach-produced record Head In The Dirt - due via Innovative Leisure on April 30th. Of first single "Family", Hanni told Rolling Stone that the track "was one of those songs that we just hit record and ripped right through. We had everyone in the room at once and just went for it. It was really loud in there. Those types of songs are the most fun to do." Check out "Family" for yourself above and catch a portion of "Can't Win Em All" in Audi's Super Bowl commercial here: http://youtu.be/ANhmS6QLd5Q

When Hanni El Khatib started out, he was just a skater kid playing the world's worst guitar and singing by himself.  Inspired by a long line of determined do-it-for-themselves musicians winding back through punk and psychedelia to rock 'n' roll and early r&b and finally the first scratchy years of the blues, he'd record song after bare-bones song-in between day jobs and night life-just because he had things he wanted to sing about. Then in 2010 from a chance meeting, up-and-coming indie label Innovative Leisure recognized that there was something huge hiding in those little songs. And so el Khatib made his official full-power soul 'n' rock 'n' roll debut (on vinyl too) in 2010.

Soon his music would overtake him completely. By the time his first album Will The Guns Come Out was released in 2011, he clawed out a space of his own musically and left his job as creative director at streetwear label HUF as well as his hometown of San Francisco to become part-owner of (and
in-house Art Director) Innovative Leisure in Los Angeles, California. It had been the kind of year where anything that could happen would happen.

In 2012, however, Hanni El Khatib showed up to record his second album with just the clothes on his back-no guitar, no fancy almost-finished demos, and only about three weeks time to get from start to finish. While on tour, he'd met Dan Auerbach in a bar in Paris and after some whiskey got involved, they decided to partner up in Auerbach's studio in Nashville. The idea was to erase everything he'd become comfortable with and to make an album out of only raw instinct and inspiration.

The result is Head In The Dirt, produced by Auerbach, in which El Khatib takes a lucky eleven songs and makes the entire history of rebel music something all his own. He's got cut-to-the-bone rhythm 'n' blues ("Save Me") and overcranked Stooges-style stompers ("Family"). He's got bottomless Black Sabbath riff-outs (the back half of "Pay No Mind") and dub-a-delic garageland rockers ("Nobody Move") that call up the spirits of the Clash and the Equals both. His "Low" is just one Andre 3000 remix away from a club anthem, "Penny" is his stuck-in-your-head pop hit and "Sinking In The Sand" is his smash-your-head freak-out. The plan that first day in Nashville might have been to make something out of nothing-but by the end of Head In The Dirt, you'll realize that Hanni El Khatib actually made something out of everything.

PRINCE RAMA ANNOUNCES NEW ART INSTALLATION

PRINCE RAMA ANNOUNCES NEW ART INSTALLATION

GUITAR CENTER, POST-APOCALYPSE OPENS 2/9 AT SECRET PROJECT ROBOT
For the past month, Taraka and Nimai Larson of Prince Rama have been building a "post-apocalyptic Guitar Center" pop-up store inside Secret Project Robot. Installed in a reclaimed warehouse space, the evolution towards a more de-materialized music is taken to its inevitable end; Guitar Center becomes an anachronistic marketplace and a mausoleum of signifiers and relics of rock and roll's mythological past. In this ghost-modern interior landscape, trees grow upside down to support dangling disco balls, lasers are reduced to glimmering projections looped from youtube demo videos, and instruments are glossy reproductions haphazardly cut and arranged from old mail order catalogues, creating a hyper-real pastoralism that reeks of both post-technological emptiness and utopian promise.

On the night of the opening, there will be a live "shred off" performance consisting of a select group of guitar players hand picked from local Guitar Center stores weaving infinite configurations of interlocking Stairway to Heaven solos. Food will be provided, and drinks will be served by Eric Copeland (Black Dice).

EVENT INFORMATION:

////////// YOU NEVER KNEW GUITAR CENTER LIKE THIS BEFORE //////////

About Prince Rama:
"What the hell is that?" is a question pretty familiar to the controversial Brooklyn band Prince Rama. The answer is far from simple; sisters Taraka and Nimai Larson have lived in ashrams, worked for utopian architects, written manifestos, delivered lectures from pools of fake blood, conducted group exorcisms disguised as VHS workouts and have now finished inventing an apocalypse on which to base their new pseudo-compilation album, Top Ten Hits of the End of the World, comprised of ten singles "channeled" from fictional deceased pop bands. Their often unpredictable live shows incorporate elements of psychedelic ceremony, performance art, and dancefloor initiation rite, and when Animal Collective's Avey Tare discovered them in a Texas dive bar in 2010, they were equipping the audience with handmade shoes clad with broken chimes. They signed to Paw Tracks shortly thereafter, and have since released Shadow Temple and Trust Now, which peaked at #3 and #6 on the Billboard New Age Charts respectively. In only four years, Prince Rama have released a prolific six albums and toured in four of the seven continents, recording with members of Animal Collective and Ariel Pink's Haunted Graffiti. Taraka recently published a manifesto on the "NOW AGE" that puts forth Prince Rama's aesthetic and metaphysical philosophies, which has been met with both hatred and praise from art and music worlds alike. One thing is certain: whatever it is they are, Prince Rama are constantly breaking the mold of what is acceptable to forge a dizzying universe that is wholly their own.

MORE ABOUT BEAK> HERE:
BEAK> formed by Geoff Barrow (drums),  Matt Williams (keys-axe),  and Billy Fuller (bass) in 2009 when they recorded their self-titled debut album in Bristol, created out of 12 days of improv sessions and then edited into song form. Shorty after releasing their self titled debut album on INVADA records UK and Ipecac records U.S., the band went on a successful tour, playing various festival dates across Europe and the U.S. Buzzing from the tour, Beak> then returned to the studio to start work on ALBUM 2 titled >> only to find that the time on the road had taken its toll on the band’s delicately sensitive and creative nature. And, by consequence, had turned them into a truly awful-sounding pub prog-rock band. The magic had gone. It seemed that the band were thoroughly moribund. Until... One rainy afternoon in Bristol after many tortured, truly terrible recording sessions something changed. It may have been the diesel fumes from the bands tour splitter bus had worn off, others say that the band simply turned their amplifiers down. We will possibly never know the true events of that afternoon but the band began to play and, once again as before, their bleak, wobbly anti-blue note sound had returned, but this time with added synthesizers.
BEAK> have a strong ethos to making records – all albums come from live improv sessions with all musicians playing together in one room, no preconceived written ideas and once recorded no overdubs or fixing – what you hear is what happened.
BEAK> have released 2 albums and toured extensively in Europe & the US, headlining shows and supporting Chris Cunningham & The Horrors along with playing many festivals in Europe (ATP, Primavera Sound, Route du Rock).
Despite BEAK> members all being in other bands they passionately feel that BEAK> should not be seen as a “side project” – they’re a real, continuous working band.
Although BEAK> have been played on specialist UK radio shows this single MONO is the bands first track specifically taken to radio as a single

BEAK> wrapped up their UK tour throughout November and December of last year, and are playing select dates in the US this February.
Beak> US dates:
February 8           Philadelphia, PA          Underground Arts
February 10         New York, NY               Bowery Ballroom
February 12         Los Angeles, CA          Echoplex
February 13         San Francisco, CA       The Independent
"It’s weird, timeless, gloom funk where ancient-sounding electronics phase in Silver Apples woose-glory, krautrock grooves melt into This Heat avant-punk minimalism, where Devo performs through a mouth full of cottonballs and a stomach of Codiene.” Spin/ Top Albums of 2012

Lisa Germano "No Elephants"

Pitchfork will be streaming the new Lisa Germano album in its entirety till release date : http://pitchfork.com/advance/24-no-elephants/....like a Grimms fairy tale lisa germano's music pulls you in to a magical, mysterious place where stories that feel beautiful can have an underlying message for the soul that may not be as it seems... no elephantsis Lisa Germano's new album. no elephants was produced, recorded and mixed by Jamie Candiloro at Banana Chicken Studios. It was written and played by Lisa Germano, some bees, cell phones, a bunch of animals; Candiloro created drum loops and unearthly sounds, and Sebastian Steinberg played acoustic bass. Executive producers: Rocco and Betty Germano. Like her other nine albums, no elephantsis made like a book to read to the end. There is foreshadowing from melodies and ideas that weave the record's story together, and it takes time and imagination from the reader/listener. Unfortunately, few people these days take the time to make or listen to an album created as a whole piece, but no elephants is short and worthy of the attention paid. "Making a record any other way doesn't work for me," she says. no elephants is being released by Badman Recording Co. February 12, 2013. I'm hoping you'll consider covering this extraordinary artist via feature or album review once you've had a listen. If you need a download or CD please let me know.

This is a deeply felt, simply and beautifully orchestrated music whose dulcet charms, when scratched, reveal an ineffable glow. While Lisa's lyrics can be forcefully literal, they're also gratifyingly figurative; as pure music, her songs offer a resonantly oblique time and place. Such a feeling resounds on the opening track, "Ruminants," a pensive lullabye that has, Lisa says, something to do with the natural order to this world that the human race has messed up, especially in how we treat animals and the earth itself. "My communication with myself, the earth andits beings is getting weirder every day," comments Germano. "If I could replace all theshit in my head, my troubles relating to humans and the earth's beings'troubles relating back to me...I think that's what this record is about."

The title track occupies a minor-key space where Lisa watches "the world getting filled up with a lot of nothing" -- a song, she says, about being displaced and not seeing one's own worth...And then there're the bees, she says, whose magical dance of pollination is being challenged by the interfering vibrations of the digital devices we humans clutch so fiercely to our quivering breasts. We ought to take that song at face value at first, then speculate on its particulars: alienation, identity, a troubling new view of humanity.

Questions always, values, morals, ethics, beliefs: The very close listener could attempt to boil Lisa Germano's complexities down and say that her songs, well, they're about feelings. She wishes to probe her self and those she loves in a cathartic, cutting way; she seeks as well to comfort. There's a song called "Back to Earth" that is delicacy defined ("Fraidy cat...I need someone to take me home"). There's "A Feast": Should she just sit quietly at the banquet with her unconscious friends or mention the cruelty of foie gras, suckling pigs and ivory vases, thus ruining the feast for all?

Lisa strives toward simple communication, but she knows that's simply not possible. She flows musical metaphors, songs that position piquant chords and textures to paint one straightforward scenario even as it becomes a metaphor for another. A track entitled "Apathy and the Devil" decries joykillers: "As I feel my heart receding / they love to watch me stop believing." "And So On" begins with we humans breaking each other's hearts, torturing each other emotionally, and that ill wind blows out into the world as we torture and break the hearts of our animals. These stories/songs come finely shaded with the unexpected, things that couldn't be contrived in a formal writing process, like the wordless "Dance of the Bees," another expressively in-between terrain plagued with locusts of noise from the electronic gear we accumulate to aid our "communication" with others, and with ourselves. In "Diamonds" Germano's subconscious executes new tonal structures; we are all alchemists when we make something beautiful out of something ugly.

"When I'm gone in my head / cover me." We belong to ourselves, and we all belong together, and we are all pretty strange, comes right down to it. And pre-, post-, in the middle, nowhere, everywhere, the mental states and emotional planes Lisa Germano evokes smoke with intensity of feeling, at minimum the intensity of trying to remember how to feel. In "Last Straws for Sale," she wonders how lonely and dark will it be when there are really none left to buy: "One more the end / into the wind again"

Lisa is known to a worldwide fan cult for a series of savagely honest and musically intrepid solo albums that commenced in the early '90s for the 4AD label, including the cynical debut Happinessin 1994 and the sexual-warfare-running-amok Geek the Girl, also from '94 (which was included in Spin's top 100 records of the 1990s). A series of follow-up records found her exploring with widening musical palettes some of the farther reaches of the scary rock-as-catharsis world. Also known as a multi-instrumentalist with such diverse artists as Eels, David Bowie, Crowded House, Philip Selway (Radiohead), Indigo Girls, John Mellencamp and Giant Sand, Lisa plays most of the instruments and music on her records, giving them even more direct emotion from the storyteller.

GLISS residency @ Los Globos

MODERN OUTSIDER ANOUNCES GLISS RESIDENCY
LIVE PERFORMANCE ON KCSN
February Residency at Los Globos in Los Angeles
KCSN Live Performance Today, February 1st
'Langsom Dans' Available Now via Modern Outsider

Los Angeles trio, Gliss, is pleased to announce their upcoming free residency in the month of February at Los Globos in Silver Lake, Los Angeles. The Monday residency will feature an array of bands and kicks off February 4th. The band will also be stopping by Nic Harcourt's morning show on 88.5FM KCSN, today, Feb 1st for a live performance and chat, tune in at 10:30AM PST. Their newest album, Langsom Dans, was recently released via Modern Outsider.

Danish/American band Gliss makes a huge departure from their old sound on the new record Langsom Dans which is gathering comparisons to Beach House, Crystal Castles and Lower Dens. The LA based trio, consisting of Victoria Cecilia, Martin Klingman and David Reiss, pour their collective musical imaginations into recording timeless art pop with a precise Scandinavian texture that steps away from their previous work. The 12-track LP features heavy synths and electronic beats with Danish expatriate, Victoria Cecilia, stepping into the role as lead singer. The passionate vocal harmonies dictate the recordings with stories of coming out of the darkness into a new life, bringing to mind The XX, Portishead and Depeche Mode.

This is a full-length from a band that knows their sound, and having toured with the likes of The Horrors, Raveonettes and Editors, they clearly have the credentials.

The album is released through Modern Outsider and is already climbing into the Top 5 on the alternative specialty radio charts.
