Beach House has scheduled both European and North American spring tours for 2013 in support of Bloom, their acclaimed 4th album.  The band will begin their 18-date European trip on March 9 in Bologna, IT at Estragon and close it out with a two-night stand on March 25 and 26 in London, UK at the O2 Shepherds Bush Empire. Beach House will then embark on a 3-week North American tour, which begins on April 8 in El Paso, TX at Tricky Falls and ends on April 26 with a special hometown show in Baltimore, MD at the Lyric Opera House, with support from special guests Lower Dens. Additionally, the band has scheduled festival performances on April 12 and 19 for both Coachella weekends and June 7 in New York  at the Governors Ball on Randall’s Island. Please find a full list of tour dates below.

You can now view the trailer for Beach House’s forthcoming concert film, Forever Still. The full film will be available for viewing later this month at Pitchfork TV.  The film was shot on location on the outskirts of El Paso, TX (see Pitchfork news story Jan. 28).

In related news, Beach House's World Cafe performance will air on February 1. You can listen to the session here at http://www.xpn.org/music-artist/xpn-stream.

In celebration of an excellent 2012 (which saw release of the band’s new album Bloom) and the arrival of 2013, Beach House has created a behind-the-scenes film for the track “New Year.”  The band says of the clip, “Here is a video we made using footage from our recording session at Sonic Ranch Studios, Tornillo, Texas. It's more of a home video thing, not a music video.......we just thought these moments and the memories they involve fit this song.” Beach House also recently premiered an intense and compelling clip for “Wild,” directed by filmmaker Johan Renck (Breaking Bad, The Walking Dead, Madonna, The Knife).  Both videos are available for viewing at YouTube now.

Beach House's critically-acclaimed Bloom has earned placement on over 50 year-end lists for 2012 including the Village Voice “Pazz & Jop” critics poll, Pitchfork, Rolling Stone, Billboard, Filter, Complex, Magnet, Under the Radar, Paste, PopMatters, Gorilla vs. Bear, and Consequence of Sound.  Bloom is also the no. 2 album for the year at CMJ, in addition to its four-week stand at no. 1 on the chart in the summer of 2012.  Bloom also became the band’s first Billboard top 10 album, debuting at no. 7 on the Top 200 chart.

Led by the singles “Myth” and “Lazuli,” Bloom was recorded in late 2011 at Sonic Ranch Studios in Tornillo, TX, co-produced by Beach House and Chris Coady, and mixed at Electric Lady in NYC. The album is now available in the US and Canada on CD, double-LP, and digital formats from Sub Pop Records. The album is also available in the following territories: in Europe from Bella Union, in Mexico from Arts and Crafts, and in Australia from Mistletone.

What people are saying about Bloom:
“The two-piece dream-pop band wraps listeners in lush, expansive down comforters of sound." [30 Artists to Watch in 2012]  - Entertainment Weekly

"How did Jay-Z and BeyoncĂ©'s favorite indie-pop duo top their 2010 breakthrough, Teen Dream? By coming up with an even prettier vision of synth-y, Eighties-steeped romanticism. Languid lead singer Victoria Legrand has some dark stuff on her mind – mortality and ruin keep bubbling to the surface of the Baltimore act's fourth LP ("Can't keep hanging on . . . to what is dead and gone," she sings on "Myth"). But you'd hardly know it from the blissful way she lets her voice blend with the softly bobbing organ chords and arpeggiated guitars." [50 Best Albums 2012] - Rolling Stone

“The music dissolves girl groups, minimalist patterns, rock anthems, drones and lullabies into a thoughtful stasis. Instead of seeking to create peaks and valleys, Beach House songs thicken without building up; they find equipoise and hold it." [Critics’ Choice] - New York Times

"Bloom is another solid output from the Baltimore duo, one that’s distinctively Beach House—light, whimsical, almost delicate and not unlike an actual blooming flower. Alex Scally masterfully crafts entrancing, methodical guitar arrangements that pair perfectly with Victoria Legrand’s gauzy voice to form a dreamy, almost ethereal-sounding pop album that’s as sweeping as it is audibly beautiful. But lyrically it’s full of painful imagery of unrequited love and letting go of something to which you still feel attached. That’s the Beach House’s formula: juxtaposing themes of heartbreak, loss and longing with hypnotic rhythms that build upon each other and careen hazily to a sparkling chorus. But the band does it with more force this time around." [50 Best Albums 2012] - PASTE

“The songwriting is tighter, yet the atmosphere feels more diffuse; the lyrics are more straightforward, yet they're somehow suggestive of larger things. By just about every measure, Bloom's wingspan is fuller than anything Beach House have done before." [9.1 “Best New Music”] - Pitchfork

Bloom is a masterstroke, an utter gamechanger…Bloom should be to the year 2012 what Loveless was to 1991, or Yankee Hotel Foxtrot was to 2002, or Funeral was to 2004: a landmark release.” [10/10] - PopMatters

Press Quotes
"And as they like to remind you in interviews and at their live shows, FIDLAR is an acronym for "fuck it, dog, life's a risk." That said, across these 39 minutes, they also make life sound like a lot of fun." - Pitchfork
"On their self-titled debut, the fierce LA band blends messy house-[arty punk with fuzzy surf vibes and comes off like the Pixies if they wore lamp shades on their heads." - Entertainment Weekly
"Punk's not dead! And FIDLAR are here from Los Angeles to prove it with three-chord thrashes that summon the spirit of 77" - Guardian
"This doped-up, hard-partying Los Angeles four-piece are set to be the most exciting punk band of 2013." - NME
"When they're not guzzling cheep swill and writing rock & roll thrashers about it, Los Angeles punks FIDLAR have shown a knack for crafting sunnier pop cuts befitting their hometown." - Rolling Stone
"FIDLAR isn’t just another California punk band churning out hard-driving rock (although tracks like “Cheap Beer” certainly live up that expectation); rather they infuse their songs—like the stand-out “Gimme Something”—with a subtly sunny pop vibe that shows off their LA roots" - TIME Magazine
"Carper and his bandmates may in fact be incorrigible do-nothings, but they've got something to show for it: an ever-growing catalog of readymade garage-punk classics that draw omnivorously on a half century of bad-ass pop, from Phil Spector to Nirvana to the late, great Jay Reatard." - Noisey
"FIDLAR channel elements of classic acts like the White Stripes and Pixies, while practically begging for a co-headlining tour with contemporaries like Bass Drum of Death and JEFF the Brotherhood" - SPIN
"The tune can be summed up in a handful of image descriptions; sandboarding, grim reaper, suicidal flip-up hat, skull mask, and shred." - Filter Magazine
"We all have a major music crush on FIDLAR here at VICE" - VICE
"FIDLAR has an agressive, straightforward, but melodic conception of punk." - LA Times
"But one wouldn't mistake the band for one of its slacker subjects, not when they play this fast. The tracks sizzle with the aggression and bargain-price fidelity of the SoCal punk tradition, though FIDLAR's catchy hooks have more in common with Social Distortion and Wavves than Black Flag. " - MTV Buzz

BIO
"Thanks for coming, man. Want some bum juice?"
"What the fuck is in this shit?"
"Tampico and Everclear. It's pretty gross."
When they started in 2009, seeing FIDLAR meant showing up to a house party and eventually having this exchange with one of them. Zac Carper, The bands guitarist and singer (well, one of 'em) would hand you a red cup , throw an arm around your neck and probably end up blurting out how fucked up he was. Their set list would read more like a grocery list of party supplies than a list of songs: "Cocaine. Cheap Beer. Chinese weed. Four Loko."
After a few years of being a band Zac still plugs in his pedals attached to a skate deck ("Pedal board", get it?) and says "Hi We're FIDLAR: F-I-D-L-A-R. It means 'Fuck It Dog, Life's a Risk".  Seeing a FIDLAR set consists of drinking and dancing with people that are twice as drunk as you are while the band rips through songs about what they know best: The girl doesn't call, my ex is a whore, I lost my phone, my car is a piece of shit, my friends are pieces of shit, I do too many drugs, I'm really awkward, I love Del Taco.
FIDLAR is Zac Carper, Elvis Kuehn,  Brandon Schwartzel, and Max Kuehn.   Elvis and Zac met at Kingsize Soundlabs in LA and recorded a ton of demos with the band before playing a live show.  Their first show was on a FMLY bike ride at a skatepark in Culver City. Three years later the band has played with Black Lips, OFF!, Japanther and toured with The Hives.  They've released two EP's and just got back from touring Europe.
Listening to them, you can tell that the band did their homework on punk rock and seem dead set on inflicting lessons on anyone willing to listen.  Any given song will give you a Germs influenced guitar solo, the catchy "Ooo's" and "Ah's" of The Misfits , and lyrics in the same family as Black Flag's "Six Pack" and "TV Party" . On the same token they can just as easily be compared to any of the bands they cover (Blink 182, FEAR, CCR, Warron Zevon), yet it all comes across entirely their own: Surfier, Faster, more fuzzed out, more personal and a lot more drunk.
FIDLAR's first LP is coming out via Mom + Pop and Wichita recordings. Recorded at their home studio, The album is set to be 14 tracks long and out January 22nd.  FIDLAR are your dumbass friends that find a beer, scrape the shit off their shoes, and tell you how the hardest thing about waking up late and trying not to fuck up your life is having to do it with no job, no money and everyone bumming your cigarettes.
'FIDLAR' Tracklisting

CHARLES BRADLEY

Victim Of Love
New Album Out April 2 on Dunham/Daptone Records

Stream First Single “Strictly Reserved For You” Now

Announces North American Tour and Festival Dates with His Extraordinaires
Including Headline Show at New York City’s Legendary Apollo Theater

Charles Bradley will release his anticipated second album Victim of Love April 2 on Daptone Records imprint Dunham Records. The album and lead single “Strictly Reserved for You” find him taking a turn away from the “heartaches and pain” of 2011 debut album No Time For Dreaming, and toward the promise of hope and love. “Strictly Reserved for You” sees Bradley grabbing his girl, jumping in a car and hitting the highway for a romantic getaway. Stream the track now: http://soundcloud.com/daptone-records/charles-bradley-strictly

Bradley has also announced an extensive North American spring tour with His Extraordinaires, kicking off April 12 in Annapolis, MD. The tour includes a headline show at famed New York City venue the Apollo Theater, the same place where he saw his lifelong hero James Brown for the first time as a teenager. See all dates—including an appearance at the Savannah Music Festival in March, and European festival dates in June—below. Tickets will go on sale Friday, February 1 in most cities.

While most artists appreciate their audiences, few artists love their fans as much and as sincerely as the 64-year old “Screaming Eagle of Soul.” Bradley has received wide praise for his honest, heartfelt live performances and can often be seen literally embracing his audience. In 2012, he was featured on the cover of Pollstar—the concert Industry’s leading business trade publication—and was named “Road Warrior of the Year” at the inaugural A2IM Libera Awards (the award celebrates the independent label band/artist that was the most fan-engaged/worked hardest at their job that year).

By now, Bradley’s remarkable, against-all-odds rise has been well documented: how he transcended a bleak life on the streets and struggled through a series of ill-fitting jobs before finally being discovered by Daptone's Gabriel Roth. The year following the release of No Time For Dreaming was one triumph after another: a stunning performance at South By Southwest that earned unanimous raves and the cover of SXSWorld; similarly-gripping appearances at Bonnaroo, Austin City Limits, Newport Folk Festival and Outside Lands (to name just a few); television performances and profiles on The Tonight Show with Jay Leno, BBC’s Later... with Jools Holland, Last Call with Carson Daly and VH1 News; and spots on Year-End Best Lists from Rolling Stone, SPIN, GQ, Paste and more.

Charles Bradley has emerged from the heartache of No Time For Dreaming stronger and more confident, overflowing with love to share. This new album is Charles Bradley, victim of love -- gratefully returning the joy and love that has been given to him.

Father John Misty to perform on The Tonight Show with Jay Leno

Father John Misty to perform on The Tonight Show with Jay Leno

Announces more tour dates, includes
Coachella performances April 14 and 21

Father John Misty has added more North American dates to his spring and summer tour schedule in support of his critically acclaimed album Fear Fun.  The trek begins May 3 in Tucson, AZ at the Rialto Theatre and ends June 21 in San Francisco, CA at the Fillmore. There will be additional dates announced soon.

Father John Misty will also perform at the Coachella Music And Arts Festival in Indio, CA on April 14 and 21. And preceding these dates is Father John Misty’s previously announced January west coast US tour, which is currently underway, and his short Australian tour in February. A full list of tour dates can be found below.

We’re also very excited to share the news that Father John Misty will perform on the Tonight Show with Jay Leno on Wednesday, February 27.

Fear Fun has made 2012 an exceptional year for Father John Misty. The album and its lead off track, “Hollywood Forever Cemetery Sings” won placement on the Village Voice “Pazz & Jop” critics poll (#14 album and #33 single). This is in addition to year-end notices from Paste (#2 album), GQ (“Rock ‘N Roller of the Year”), Aquarium Drunkard,  AOL Spinner, MP4, BBC Music, SPIN, Filter, Under The Radar, Uncut, and readers polls from the likes of Pitchfork, NPR and Stereogum. He’s also graced the stages of late night TV with wonderfully received performances on The Late Show with David Letterman, Jimmy Kimmel Live, Conan, From The Basement, and Last call with Carson Daly.

What people are saying about Father John Misty:
“A mischievously warm collection of folky-indie rock bliss.” [#2/The Must List] – Entertainment Weekly

“A captivating listen” [8/10] – Magnet

“Tillman varies things up on Fear Fun, reveals an adventurous palette, and makes what may be his best album to date.” -  Pitchfork

“The record delights in this back-and-forth between light and dark, possibly a sonic manifestation of the City of Angels itself. As he’s working on a novel (“’Cause it’s never been done before,” Misty quips), his life erupts into a bluesy fever dream, name-checking the similar-minded Neil Young meltdown record On The Beach.” [8/10] – Prefix

“Casting himself as Father John Misty, a Laurel Canyon transplant equally repelled and fascinated by the self-centered sprawl of LA, his Fear Fun is a country-leaning, wise-cracking masterwork.” [8/10] –NME

“It is a thing of madcap, mushroom-inspired Laurel Canyon genius, all done with a 1970s soft-rock smile.” [5/5] – The Independent

“It's clear from the start with the gorgeous opener, "Funtimes in Babylon", that Tillman's is a singular talent, and, thankfully, one that won't require much encouragement: "Look out Hollywood, here I come.” [8/10] – Under The Radar

“Tillman soaks up the sounds, smells, and free-floating strangeness of his environment, and revels in its humanity.” – The Onion AV

The Knife-Full Of Fire video

Music by The Knife

Artwork Credit: Liv Strömquist
Today, The Knife unveil ”Full Of Fire” from their forthcoming album Shaking The Habitual and premier a short film by Marit Ă–stberg.

Filmmaker and revolutionary visual artist, Marit Ă–stberg is based in Stockholm and Berlin. Championing feminist fights throughout history, Marit is well known for her works focusing on images of queer bodies and sexualities. Her work has often been described as uncompromising:
Uncompromisingly current.
Uncompromisingly sexy.
Uncompromisingly political.

The film ‘Full Of Fire’ started to grow as an embryo in the song´s lines ‘Who looks after my story’. Who takes care of our stories when the big history, written by straight rich white men, erase the complexity of human´s lives, desires and conditions? The film ‘Full Of Fire’ consists of a network of fates, fears, cravings, longings, losses, and promises. Fates that at first sight seem isolated from each other, but if we pay attention, we can see that everything essentially moves into each other. Our lives are intertwined and our eyes on each other, our sounds and smells, mean something. Our actions create reality, we create each other. We are never faceless, not even in the most grey anonymous streets of the city. We will never stop being responsible, being extensions, of one another. We will never stop longing for each other, and for something else.”
-Marit Ă–stberg

Watch the film on theknife.net The track ”Full Of Fire” is available to download now. The band's forthcoming album Shaking The Habitual will be released on April 9th.

Sometimes I get problems that are hard to solve
What’s your story
That’s my opinion
Questions and the answers can take very long
Here’s a story
What’s your opinion
Of all the guys
And the signori
Who will write
My story
Get the picture
They get glory
Who looks after
My story
All the guys
And the signori
Telling another
False story
Liberals giving me a nerve itch
Now living
And always moving
Not a vagina
It's an option
The c-ck
Had it coming
Ha ha ha ha ha ha
Now living
And always moving
Now living
And always falling
Sometimes I get problems that are hard to solve
Here’s a story
That’s my opinion
Liberals giving me a nerve itch
Ha ha ha ha ha ha
When you’re full of fire
What’s the object
of your desire
Asking questions that are easy to reply
When you’re full of fire
What’s the object
of your desire
Let’s talk about gender baby
Let’s talk about you and me

There is an accepted music industry strategy, mainly from the mouths of experienced music managers and A&R men, that for a band to get ready to present themselves to the world they should go on tour. In most cases this advice works; the band hone their craft on the road so by the time they get on to ‘Later with Jools Holland’ they can amaze with their slick, tight rock performance. However, this doesn’t always work.

BEAK> formed by Geoff Barrow (drums),  Matt Williams (keys-axe),  and Billy Fuller (bass) in 2009 when they recorded their self-titled debut album in Bristol, created out of 12 days of improv sessions and then edited into song form. Shorty after releasing their self titled debut album on INVADA records UK and Ipecac records U.S., the band went on a successful tour, playing various festival dates across Europe and the U.S. Buzzing from the tour, Beak> then returned to the studio to start work on ALBUM 2 titled >> only to find that the time on the road had taken its toll on the band’s delicately sensitive and creative nature. And, by consequence, had turned them into a truly awful-sounding pub prog-rock band. The magic had gone. It seemed that the band were thoroughly moribund. Until... One rainy afternoon in Bristol after many tortured, truly terrible recording sessions something changed. It may have been the diesel fumes from the bands tour splitter bus had worn off, others say that the band simply turned their amplifiers down. We will possibly never know the true events of that afternoon but the band began to play and, once again as before, their bleak, wobbly anti-blue note sound had returned, but this time with added synthesizers.

BEAK> have a strong ethos to making records – all albums come from live improv sessions with all musicians playing together in one room, no preconceived written ideas and once recorded no overdubs or fixing – what you hear is what happened.

BEAK> have released 2 albums and toured extensively in Europe & the US, headlining shows and supporting Chris Cunningham & The Horrors along with playing many festivals in Europe (ATP, Primavera Sound, Route du Rock).

Despite BEAK> members all being in other bands they passionately feel that BEAK> should not be seen as a “side project” – they’re a real, continuous working band.

Although BEAK> have been played on specialist UK radio shows this single MONO is the bands first track specifically taken to radio as a single

BEAK> wrapped up their UK tour throughout November and December of last year, and are playing select dates in the US this February.

Beak> US dates:

February 8           Philadelphia, PA          Underground Arts
February 10         New York, NY               Bowery Ballroom
February 12         Los Angeles, CA          Echoplex
February 13         San Francisco, CA       The Independent

"It’s weird, timeless, gloom funk where ancient-sounding electronics phase in Silver Apples woose-glory, krautrock grooves melt into This Heat avant-punk minimalism, where Devo performs through a mouth full of cottonballs and a stomach of Codiene.” Spin/ Top Albums of 2012

Krautrock is synonymous with a certain rhythmic precision and propulsion, but BEAK> don't just lock into a motorik beat and activate the cruise control. Rather, they see the music as part of a broader continuum, digging up its roots in the frazzled psychedelia of Syd Barrett-era Pink Floyd, funk, and musique concrete...” Pitchfork

"The results are impressive...a record that's heroically uncommercial but hypnotic none the less." - The Observer

"Theirs is a refreshingly opaque, charmingly fumbling sound world whose obstinate primitivism can't conceal a playful musicality and facility for skewed, inside-outside grooves" -  **** MOJO

"Creativity prospers in hard times...Menacing and paranoid, this second album makes satisfying sense in 2012." - 8/10 NME

"Music made for the sheer joy of making music." - Q

"Delightfully creepy" - The Fly

"A group playing exactly what they want, how they want and never mind the consequences." - Loud & Quiet

Dead Can Dance Announce video contest

Dead Can Dance Announce

"Children of the Sun" Video Contest

Dead Can Dance have partnered with Genero.tv to give filmmakers and music video directors the chance to make the music video for “Children of the Sun,” one of the highlights on their 2012 album Anastasis. The contest runs through March 4 and those interested can enter and see the official rules at http://genero.tv/deadcandance/.  The winner will receive £3,000 (approximately $4,700) and have their creation used as the official music video for “Children of the Sun.” Outstanding videos will also be nominated for the 2013 Genero Awards. Dead Can Dance and Genero will choose the finalists and winners.

Anastasis is Dead Can Dance’s first studio album in 16 years. Anastasis is the Greek word for resurrection and can also mean between two stages, which is a fitting way to title the return of Dead Can Dance and to start their new chapter. It is also an astonishing regeneration of the legendary beauty, power and spellbinding nature of the duo’s unique sound and vision. Anastasis is out now on [PIAS] America.
