Austin, TX based Balmorhea proudly release their fifth full-length album Stranger,
today October 2nd on Western Vinyl. The six-piece instrumental group
have also embarked upon a national tour which kicked off last week with
a rousing home town record release show in Austin at the Mohawk.
Celebrated on past releases for what the New Yorker eloquently described as the bands "slow burning, wordless, and ambient Americana," with Stranger
the band moves beyond contemplative reverence for the land and the
history of their home state. The most forward-leaning of their catalog,
Stranger presents
worlds of tenderness, aggression, estrangement, and freedom using an
expanded sonic palette including guitar loops, vibraphone,
synthesizers, ukulele, and steel pan drums. In addition to these new
sounds, electric guitars and percussion take the stage once occupied by
piano and acoustic guitars.

“…possibly the band's best album to date. Do not snooze on Meat and Bone: it is out of this world and as addictive as Heisenberg's Blue Sky meth.” Blurt
“… a
long-awaited return to the wild side, with the Blues Explosion offering
up all the mutated musical goodness as you can stomach.” Consequence Of Sound
“The
dream scenario, when a band reappears after a lay-off, is that they
zero in on what made them ace back when, and that they then smash
people with it afresh. Meat + Bone, unequivocally, does exactly that.” E Music
“Their
primal, post-modern blues riot continues to transcend the ebb and flow
of musical trends around them . Jon Spencer and his 20-year old band
get better with age.”**** MOJO
“This
downtown institution has returned after an eight-year silence, and this
kick-ass, three-chord rock ’n’ roll number goes a long way toward
explaining why their new record is called “Meat and Bone.” Welcome back fellas, we’ve missed you.” New York Post
A potent continuation of the finest sonic stunt a horse has ever pulled. Original alt-blues preacherman Spencer is on ferocious form here”. **** NME
“..straight-up,
no-bullshit rock'n'soul…. They're reapplying for the job of America's
most raucous, hardest-working rock'n'roll band, and will let the sweat
speak for itself. “ Pitchfork
“They’re able to whip up a frenzy in short order, and no gnarled note goes wasted. And, man, do they cook up a storm. Meat & Bone is
proof positive that music needn’t be so reverent to its past…Influence
is a tool, but JSBE use it like a tenderizer instead of a feather
duster.” Prefix
“...speaker-scorching.” RollingStone.com

BLOWFLY
is the alter ego of legendary singer songwriter Clarence Reid. The
inventor of the Miami soul sound, Reid has written massive hits for KC
and The Sunshine Band, Gwen McRae (1975's R&B #1 hit 'Rocking
Chair'), Betty Wright and Sam and Dave along with his own successful
recordings, most notably the hit 'Nobody But You Babe'. Yet it is
Reid's mysterious and shocking alter-ego, BLOWFLY, which continues to
shock and entertain audiences with his insane brand of funky X-Rated
parody albums and filthy originals. With a career spanning nearly 50
years and over 20 albums, Blowfly's 1965 recording, 'Rap Dirty' is
often referenced as the first rap song and Blowfly was the first rapper
to have a record banned! His albums are legendary and have been
acknowledged as highly influential within the rap community.

NEW YORK, NY, October 1, 2012 -
Maximo Park, the double platinum powerhouse return to their native New
Castle after a triumphant Fall U.S. Tour - The band’s first tour in five
years - with a fresh new video for their latest single “Undercurrents.”
“I like to write descriptive parts to all of the songs so the listener
can get a sense of place within the song and these words had a nice ring to
them. When I was a kid I listened to the traffic outside as it drove past
in the rain, says Paul Smith of “Undercurrents.”
Maximo Park’s U.S. tour was
supported by the recent release of their 4th album “The National
Health via Straight To The Sun Records (part of The Musebox Label
Group) and include eight U.S. dates (Major cities including Boston,
Philadelphia, New York, Washington, DC, Chicago, San Francisco and Los
Angeles). Supporting acts for their US tour dates included buzz bands
Stagnant Pools, Zambri, and The Neighbourhood.

PRAISE FOR MAXIMO
PARK:
The larger point
is that with The National Health, Maxïmo Park has reclaimed
what made it great and reminds of what it is capable of. There is much to
fawn over here. This is the Maxïmo Park we know and
love.
--- UNDER THE
RADAR MAGAZINE
"The album’s
title track [The National Health] is the sort of runaway jittery guitar
anthem that we’re not getting quite so often from the UK’s postpunk
revivalists anymore."
---
STEREOGUM
"Maxïmo Park have
always been best at their fastest, when they sprint through verses into
choruses and back out again just as quickly. That's thanks mostly to
singer Paul Smith, who has a unique ability to slip into controlled
mania like a jockey cracking a whip.”
---
PITCHFORK
“Maxïmo Park
live at the crossroads of
Joy Division, Franz Ferdinand and early Joe
Jackson…”
- ROLLING
STONE
"Maximo Park are
back with their quintessential furiously fast-paced indie rock – and
it’s great."
