Smith's usual meditative, ambient-leaning approach is dialed back in favor of soaring wonky pop, ornate neoclassical and even quasi dancefloor moments. It gives rise to her most joyous music yet.  - MOJO (FOUR STARS)

Today, experimental pioneer Kaitlyn Aurelia Smith has unveiled her highly anticipated new album Let’s Turn It Into Soundavailable everywhere now via Ghostly International. Named as The Guardian's contemporary album of the month, this new project serves as KAS’ most ambitious, intuitive, and inviting work to date. Gracefully traversing avant-garde pop, neoclassical, and otherwise undefinable expressions, Let’s Turn It Into Sound invites those that engage with it to look beyond the mundanity of linear thought and into the subtle beauty hidden in the everyday. “This album is about enigmatic expression inspired by compound feelings” notes KAS. “Art is somatic, even if it is experienced cerebrally, it is felt. Let’s turn It into sound’ is about taking feelings that aren't able to be expressed through words because there aren’t enough gradient words and turning it into sound." KAS discusses these ideas and influences further in-depth in her recent digital cover story with Composer Magazine - read in full here

Captured by director Sean Hellfritsch using a Full Motion Capture Suit (Rokoko), the new visual for “Unbraid: The Merge” builds upon the same visual concepts introduced initially by previous visuals for “Is it Me or is it You?” and “Have You Felt Lately?” Each video in the series highlights a different 3-D characterized version of KAS, fit in future fashion and flowing through a distinctive collection of hypercolor shapes and landscapes. Pulling from KAS’ knowledge of sculptural fashion, dance, Butoh, Wushu Shaolin, and other forms of sensory and somatic experience, the new visual is another invitation for the viewer to surrender into the intelligence that exists beyond the rational mind.

Alongside release of Let’s Turn It Into Sound, Smith will also embark on her North American Let’s Turn It Into Sound Tour highlighted by performances at Austin's LookOUT Fest on September 3 as well as major stops in New York, Chicago, and LA in December  - tickets on sale now.

KAS’ work as a producer and composer has pushed the boundaries of experimental music and amassed critical acclaim from the likes of Pitchfork, NPR Music, The New York Times and more. Earlier this year saw the release of her collaborative album with Emile Mosseri, I Could Be Your Dog / I Could Be Your Moonwhich garnered attention from the New York TimesNPR and recently was named as one of Vinyl Factory’s ‘Favorite Albums of 2022 So Far. These recent accomplishments help contribute to her already impressive resume which includes shows with bands like Animal Collective, Four Tet, Caribou, and Tortoise along with composing original works for Apple, BBC Orchestra, Adult Swim, MoMA, Red Bull and others.

KAS’ soundscapes go beyond her own solo efforts. Most recently, KAS contributed a remix for the upcoming Danny Elfman album, Bigger Messier as well as working with Tyler Bates on the score for the new Guardians of the Galaxy: Cosmic Rewind attraction at the Epcot Theme Park in Walt Disney World Florida. She also recently contributed to the soundtrack for the Lee Alexander Mcqueen: Mind Mythos Muse exhibition currently live at LACMA as well as an original composition, “Light of Xaryxis”, to the new Dungeons & Dragons composition album SPELLJAMS that was released last week. The beginning of this month saw KAS contributing a score to the new animated short film Sunbelly, directed & animated by Jordan Speer and originally aired inside Toonami / Adult Swim. KAS also recently sat down with DJ Bunny Ears for a new episode of Imaginary Soundtracks on Sonos Radio, an episode that sees the two of them collaborate on a playlist that highlights a collection of beloved, obscure, deep-cut songs. Beyond the world of music, KAS has ventured into literature, having released Somatic Hearinga new book on her publishing imprint Touchtheplants, the second in a 12-part series of her inquisitive journey through researching sound.
