South London band Gaygirl release their much-anticipated debut EP Pleasurehead, out now via Permanent Creeps.
Pairing the raw, emotional grunge of PJ Harvey with the immersive, bold alt-pop moments of early Garbage, each of Gaygirl's 4 band members bring a unique set of influences to the table. As a unit, not only do they create a sound that is hard to pin down, but with every twist and turn – they make an impression that’s unshakable.
Following the release of singles "Mikkel" and "Killing It"; picking up support from The Line Of Best Fit, Clash Magazine, Upset Magazine, NME, Adhoc, Gigwise, Dork Magazine and more - as well as being named a Next Wave act on Jack Saunders' BBC R1 show – the band's Pleasurehead EP is a twelve minute assault of the senses, in the best possible way.
"Whilst the EP doesn’t have a concrete concept or overriding theme, we still wanted it to feel like a journey in the way that it develops," singer Bex Morrison explains. "Each song has a different narrative, but the thing that ties them all together is the subject of control; whether that be feeling out of control, being controlled or trying to control a situation. We felt that the title ‘Pleasurehead’ fitted the body of work as a whole; it’s the state of mind of finally losing all control. It was also important to us with this EP to show a different side to the band in contrast to our earlier singles and push ourselves as musically as possible, we're all really proud of the finished product."
Consisting of songwriters Bex Morrison (vocals, guitar) and Lewis Clark (guitar), and completed by Louis Bradshaw (drums) and Tom Coyne (bass) – Gaygirl have earned a reputation for their hypnotic and visceral live performances; playing shows with the likes of Sorry, Automatic and Calva Louise in 2019.
With the release of the Pleasurehead EP, Gaygirl are without a doubt here to make their mark in 2020. "It was important to us with this EP to show a different side to the band in contrast to our earlier singles and push ourselves as musically as possible, we're all really proud of the finished product," Bex went on to say.
Gaygirl's debut EP Pleasurehead is out now (released May 22nd) via Permanent Creeps.
