Early praise for Frances Quinlan + Likewise:
"an expertly narrative songwriter and a peerless singer in the indie-rock world" - NPR
“'Rare Thing,' certainly expands on the sonic makeup of your typical Hop Along song — there’s tinny drums and little synth wiggles and twinkling harps. And then there’s Quinlan’s magnificent voice" - Stereogum
"A chaotic rocker featuring ambient percussion and harp" - Rolling Stone

“‘Likewise’ has Quinlan wandering into new territory, adding strings, auto-harp...synths, and digital beats behind her distinctive voice.” - The FADER
"That voice. If you've ever heard a Hop Along song, you know the power of that voice. It belongs to band leader Frances Quinlan, and I once wrote that it could ‘make you reevaluate your entire diction.’ (I stand by this.)" - MTV
Frances Quinlan of Hop Along will release Likewise this Friday via Saddle Creek, and it’s already been named one of the most anticipated of 2020 by numerous outlets like Pitchfork, Stereogum, Consequence of Sound, Paste, and more. Starting today, the record is streaming early, in its entirety, exclusively via NPR First Listen. While Hop Along began as Quinlan's solo project (originally titled Hop Along, Queen Ansleis), Likewise is Quinlan's debut under her own name. This newfound openness to sonic exploration echoes the sentiments of Likewise, which is a gorgeous rumination about the universal struggles of communication and connection between human beings. Listen to the album now HERE, and pre-order physically or digitally HERE.

Frances produced all of the artwork on Likewise, including the self-portrait on the album cover, and to celebrate its release she will host a series of art galleries, which will be her first-ever solo exhibitions. The free and open-to-the-public pop-up events will showcase Frances’ artwork and feature a live Q&A. These will take place in NYC tomorrow on January 29th at the Selina Chelsea (RSVP HERE), and in Los Angeles at Junior High on March 13th. For the week following album release, Selina Chelsea will also host a Frances Happy Hour, where her artwork will remain on display in the lobby and the album will be played daily at 6 pm. "It’s Frances Quinlan like you’ve never heard her before, but also unmistakably the work of no one else." - Brooklyn Vegan

"The new track is aswoon with bedroom synthesizers, an early morning daze as the sun begins to creep through the blinds. Then, for a brief moment, Quinlan peeks out the window as romantic guitars and shakers prelude the additional layers in the song’s final third." - Consequence of Sound

"“Now That I’m Back” is a strange, sprawling track that ranges from quiet and fluttery to bouncy to harsh and claustrophobic, with a rich array of instrumentation including quivering guitar, urgent shakers and springy synth." - Paste

There are so many risks involved. Regardless, I think of this song as celebratory. If anything, the speaker is frustrated at coming so close to understanding another person completely, but perhaps only just missing the mark. But still what a gift that is, to come close.” Listen to the song and watch the visualizer featuring Quinlan’s own artwork HERE.
