GESAFFELSTEIN PREMIERES MUSIC VIDEO FOR “BLAST OFF” FT. PHARRELL WILLIAMS IN THE COACHELLA LIVESTREAM

GESAFFELSTEIN PREMIERES MUSIC VIDEO FOR “BLAST OFF” FT. PHARRELL WILLIAMS IN THE COACHELLA LIVESTREAM; WATCH HERE

DEBUTED ALL NEW LIVE PRODUCTION IN THE DARKEST PERFORMANCE EVER

Gesaffelstein has released the official music video for “Blast Off” featuring Pharrell Williams. Directed by Warren Fu, the video premiered in the Coachella livestream immediately following Gesaffelstein’s set at the festival. Watch the video HERE.

Gesaffelstein’s performance at Coachella marked his very first live performance since 2015 as well as his first live performance in support of sophomore album Hyperion. The packed crowd was immersed in a sonically and visually stunning show that featured intense lighting design and a masked Gesaffelstein performing against a backdrop of deep darkness.

The set featured the exclusive use of Vantablack VBx2, making Gesaffelstein the first artist ever to use the substance in a live performance. Vantablack is the super-black coating used primarily in space applications which holds the world record as the darkest substance made by man. Gesaffelstein’s set featured a monolith design using the coating, which was applied to the concave surface of the monolith to create the illusion of infinite depth and blackness - a black hole on stage. See additional information about Vantablack HERE.

Gesaffelstein’s sophomore album Hyperion is out now via Columbia Records. Listen HERE.

Fans can catch Gesaffelstein performing live next Sunday, April 21 at Coachella Weekend 2, and at New York’s Governor’s Ball on May 31.

Steady Holiday shares cover of Weezer's "Holiday" ahead of Coachella performances

STEADY HOLIDAY

Ahead Of Coachella Performances + Shows With Charlotte Gainsbourgh & Khruangbin

"She pares back its relentless energy to a subtle bend-and-snap... Babinski's version might be less sunny, but it's still alluring as a destination in and of itself." - Stereogum

Steady Holiday, the indie-pop project of LA's Dre Babinski, is playing Coachella 2019 (April 12-14 & 19-21), and ahead of the festival she's sharing a cover of fellow performers Weezer's "Holiday." "The Blue Album was formative for me, right time and place," says Babinski. "And looking back on the song 'Holiday' (no relation), I now see a through line between it and the waltzy, nostalgic escapism shared in a lot of songs I write today."

Steady Holiday's second album Nobody's Watching was released in 2018 on Barsuk Records and was hailed as "gorgeous" by Rolling Stone - "Babinski's hovering vocals and pointed lyrics reveal the bleakness within even humans' most stunning creations" - and "dreamy, atmospheric pop songs with just a hint of menace" by Stereogum. The album is available HERE.

In between Coachella weekends, Steady Holiday will be playing in support of both Charlotte Gainsbourg and Khruangbin. Show details and ticket links are below.

4/17: El Rey Theatre w/ Charlotte Gainsbourg - Los Angeles, CA TICKETS
4/18: Fox Theatre w/ Khruangbin, The Marias - Pomona, CA TICKETS

MORE ON STEADY HOLIDAY:

Steady Holiday is an appropriate name for an artist whose music feels like the soundtrack to your fondest memory. Or your deepest heartbreak. Or the dream sequence from a David Lynch film. There's a nostalgia present in Dre Babinski's songwriting that leaves you longing for the familiarity of a bygone era - just not one you can necessarily pin down.

After years growing up playing in bands around Los Angeles, Dre recently began writing and recording for herself - on her own, in secret, developing a body of work about hidden desire itself. Establishing a sound defined by her featherlight voice floating above sweeping strings, her 2016 debut Under the Influence led to opening for artists like Mitski, Unknown Mortal Orchestra and Clap Your Hands Say Yeah.
Whereas the first record took us on a trip through the deeply personal, Dre's sophomore album Nobody's Watching zooms way out. What began as a concept record about two archetypal crooks developed into an exploration of universal themes like greed, fear and self-interest; the ugly and troubling edges of human nature. It's a good time for that.
"I've been just as affected by our current politics as anyone, but it only takes one step back to realize these same figures have been present since the beginning of civilization. This record is sort of an anthropological way of unpacking all this discomfort for me."
The narrative is most identifiable on album standout "Who's Gonna Stop Us", which creeps and charms like the characters it describes, as they set about turning trust into money. "Let's teach them how to build a pyramid / Tell them if they keep it up, they can reach the top." However, judgement is reserved even for them, as hinted in the song's bridge:  "I used to try to be decent and kind / But time after time I would get eaten alive."
Dre worked with producer Gus Seyffert (Roger Waters, Beck) to create a sound that echoes the narrative told on Nobody's Watching. From the sunny and observant to the dark and critical, the tone ranges from levity to paranoia through layers of analog synths and chilling strings played by Dre herself. There are moments of cinematic intensity reminiscent of a James Bond score, yet the subtle tape hiss and creaking chairs remind us that this is an album made by people. It is warm and it breathes, the same way the human touch can both soothe and suffocate.
Nobody's Watching is the natural next step for Dre and Steady Holiday, a project that builds worlds we wish to escape to or from. It's an examination of the inner narratives we all share but keep in the shadows, where the characters may not always be likable, but they do what they can to survive - like we all do.

Tame Impala Perform On SNL, Debut New Song

TAME IMPALA PERFORM ON SNL, DEBUT NEW SONG "BORDERLINE"

LISTEN TO THE PREVIOUSLY RELEASED

Last night, Tame Impala appeared on Saturday Night Live as the musical guest with Sandra Oh hosting. The band performed the recently released "Patience," as well as a new song "Borderline." The release of "Patience" marked their first new music since his GRAMMY nominated, RIAA Gold-Certified 2015 release, Currents. Parker will headline this year's Coachella Valley Arts and Music Festival. Watch "Patience" here:

Early praise for "Patience"

"Pounding major-seventh piano chords like Todd Rundgren, using conga drums to punch up and punctuate synthesizer arpeggios, and hinting at Michael Jackson in his melodies, he comes to the realization that he’s “growing up in stages/living life in phases.” It’s an honest part of a long-term evolution." - The New York Times

""Patience" kicks off with a languorous bit of piano-house, synth lines imported straight from '80s Italy, a congo roll — perhaps the ones pictured on the album art — and, of course, glimmers of starry-eyed psychedelics. It's immediately infectious. Parker asks, almost coyly, "Has it been that long? Did I count the days wrong?" Yes, Kevin, it's been a while — but when the pay-off is this luxurious, who's counting?" - NPR

"“Patience” takes the sleek studio advances of Currents and leapfrogs further: If that album was where Kevin Parker went from a heady bedroom artist to the kind of songwriter and producer who shows up on a Rihanna album, then “Patience” shows him fully comfortable in his expanded horizons, reaching even further toward the stars."
- Rolling Stone
In addition to Coachella, Tame Impala will headline Shaky Knees Festival in Atlanta, GA (May 5), Corona Capital (May 11), Boston Calling (May 25) and Barcelona's Primavera Festival (May 31), Glastonbury (June 26), Lollapalooza (August 01) and more with festival and headline dates planned throughout 2019. Full tour dates below.

Tame Impala is Kevin Parker. His last album Currents (Interscope) was released in 2015 earning him a second GRAMMY nomination, RIAA Gold-certification and word-wide critical acclaim. The New York Times labeled it a "a tour de force" and Pitchfork said, "nearly every proper song on 'Currents' is a revelatory statement of Parker's range and increasing expertise as a producer, arranger, songwriter, and vocalist while maintaining the essence of Tame Impala." NPR noted, "[Parker] advocates for constant reinvention... That commitment to evolution helps make Tame Impala an unlikely but worthy candidate for major stardom."

Hailing from Perth, Australia, he first toured the U.S. in 2010, playing small clubs for crowds of 200. A handful of trips to the U.S. later and thanks to the ravenous demand of fans for a transcendent live performance, Tame Impala has gone on to headline festivals and theaters around the world and released three full length albums - InnerspeakerLonerism and Currents. As a writer and producer Parker has collaborated with Travis Scott, SZA, Lady Gaga, Mark Ronson, Kanye West, Kali Uchis, Theophilus London, Miguel, A$AP Rocky and more.

Tame Impala Release New Single - "Patience" - Out Now!

TAME IMPALA RELEASE NEW SINGLE

MUSICAL GUEST ON SATURDAY NIGHT LIVE ON MARCH 30TH

Tame Impala (Kevin Parker) has released "Patience," the first new music since his GRAMMY nominated, RIAA Gold-Certified 2015 release, Currents. The new track, is out today on Interscope Records. Listen here. "Patience" is a mid-tempo chugger of 70's disco and 90's house, stoned on the house-made Tame Impala lysergic liquor. A jubilant, confident cut of elegant piano jabs, driving disco drums and Parker's inimitable vocal style. The track is a lyrical meditation on life's cycles and phases that ascends to an overwhelmingly blissed out zenith, as our protagonist makes peace with the transience of time. Its a potent hint at the infinite possibilities for future Tame Impala. Parker will headline this year's Coachella Valley Arts and Music Festival and next weekend, he'll make his Saturday Night Live debut as musical guest on March 30th with Sandra Oh hosting.

Praise for Kero Kero Bonito + Time ‘n’ Place:

"The trio adds indie rock and noise music to their electropop bread-and-butter, venturing into darker thematic territory." - The FADER

“On their sophomore album, the London trio animate songs about the complexity of memory and the promise of dreams with playful production choices” - Pitchfork

"The Open Road' is as giddy and gleeful as every KKB song, but like a lot of them, it’s also got a tinge of the bittersweet to it." - Stereogum

"...sticky sweet vocals...Even with [‘The Open Road’s’] vulnerable and sometimes wistful lyrics, the latest from KKB ends on a triumphant note. With shimmering, happy-go-lucky instrumentation throughout, the final stanza turns back to family and the personal desire to keep exploring." -Consequence of Sound

"There’s clarity, fun, and exhilarating experimentation within [Time ‘n’ Place]." - Noisey

"...existential themes and surrealistic textures..." - Bandcamp

"...wildly creatively sensibilities and melodic smarts." - Brooklyn Vegan

“On Time ‘N’ Place, Perry embraces a youthful mindset, pairing lyrics that harken back to childhood with glittering, chaotic synths." - Uproxx (20 Must-Hear Pop Albums of 2018)

Kero Kero Bonito’s critically-acclaimed sophomore album Time ‘n’ Place was surprise-released last year on Polyvinyl Record Co. and the band recently announced a forthcoming 7-inch out May 17th.
