Blood Moon is the secret collaborative of Alessi’s Ark and Charlotte Carpenter

Blood Moon is the secret collaborative of Alessi’s Ark and Charlotte Carpenter. Over the space of 10 years, both women have played with the likes of Villagers, Marika Hackman, Jenny Lewis, George Ezra & Mumford and Sons, releasing EP’s, Singles & LP’s to worldwide acclaim. Blood Moon is a fresh perspective for Charlotte and Alessi, back to basics and the band you’ve always wanted to be in.

With a mutual love of raw, honest, vulnerable and powerful writing and production, the song-sisters (as they refer to one another) put pen to paper for the first time this summer and channelled their debut single ‘Blood Moon’ in one afternoon.

This self-titled debut single embodies the sound and musicianship of the two artists, who have been relentlessly perfecting their craft for almost a decade. It’s a fresh prospective for both of them, there’s nothing fancy happening, it’s exposed, open and imperfect. A deep grunge-like guitar drives the song, but the vocal relationship between Alessi & Charlotte is at the forefront and embodies the years, the support and the sisterhood between them.

“We met 5 years ago, I was putting on a monthly night at The Cookie in Leicester and Alessi was at the top of my list to play with. I feel like some mysterious stars aligned the night we met” says Charlotte. “Over the years we’ve watched each other grow, triumph, tire and soar and on this particular afternoon something just clicked. We wrote ‘Blood Moon’ and instantly felt this was different to our solo projects; this was something on it’s own” tells Alessi.

Blood Moon was recorded at Red Squirrel Studio in Ventnor, ,Isle of Wight, by James Thorpe (Fenne Lily, CHAMPS). Released via Babywoman Records on 16th November 2018. Charlotte and Alessi set off on a UK & EU run of shows this November with their solo projects, however this will be the official debut of Blood Moon material too.

ALESSI’S ARK | DEVANT MOI Single Release Babywoman Records Released September 27th 2018

ALESSI’S ARK | DEVANT MOI
Single Release Babywoman Records
Released September 27th 2018

Hammersmith born, Alessi’s Ark releases a brand new single “Devant moi” and sound for 2018 with Babywoman Records. This fresh, dreamy, French pop sound comes from Alessi Laurent-Marke, a follow up to her fourth studio LP ‘Love Is The Currency’ in 2017.

Alessi’s delicate, understated vocals are full of so much feminine power and take the lead on “Devant moi”, lending itself to a completely new realm for Alessi. Sung-spoken, and tenderly delivered in French (a mother tongue for Alessi) she describes this territory as a long wanted desire to deliver such honesty and intimacy similar to a lot of classic French recordings by Francoise Hardy, Jacqueline Taeib and France Gall.

Alessi’s Ark is primarily a woman, seeking inspiration from glimmers of life which many of us never seem to take notice of. The exploration of Mother Nature has been a key theme in Alessi’s work but Devant moi takes Alessi into new territory: true love. In her own words…

“Devant moi is the connection felt between true partners, taking that leap and being open to love with another being. I feel such a strong connection to water when swimming, the ground when walking, it’s so visceral, physical, intimate, medicinal... but only to a point. Devant moi is about being ready, at last, to share intimacy after a long period spent alone in connection with nature only”.

It’s been a slow burning, shimmering process for Alessi’s Ark. A name and voice which has been built upon years of resilience, adventure, triumph and change. From starting out as a young woman of 16 years old, Alessi has since toured extensively in the UK, Europe, US and Japan in support of her releases with M.Ward, Jenny Lewis, Mumford & Sons, Laura Marling, Sharon Van Etten and John Grant, amongst others. Her releases have won acclaim from BBC London, BBC 6, XFM, WFMU, DubLab, KEXP and previous LP ‘Love Is The Currency’ was warmly welcomed by MOJO, Guardian, Best Fit, Clash, The 405.

Devant moi is produced by fellow Ark member Jason Santos, and mixed by Jag Jago (producer of Love Is The Currency). Alessi set off on a run of UK & EU shows this November with musician and collaborator, Charlotte Carpenter.

Alessi’s Ark releasing video for 'DLD' - song features Maccabees members Felix & Will

Alessi's Ark
+ New video for single from album Love Is The Currency
+ Song features Maccabees members Felix & Will
+ Support from Consequence of Sound, Dork,Guardian, The Line of Best Fit, Mojo
“The understated arrangements suggest you’re listening to a woman with impeccable taste.” MOJO

“It takes several plays to appreciate all the small touches that make each delicate piece.” The Guardian

London based singer-songwriter Alessi’s Ark AKA Alessi Laurent-Marke releases a warming video this winter for the single ‘DLD (Door Light Dream)’ from her new album Love is the Currency, produced by Mercury Prize nominated producer Jago Jago, and in collaboration with Felix and Will White of the Maccabees.

DLD (Door.Light.Dream), is the directorial debut for long-time friends Aude Chagnon-Caument and Paris based photographer, Julien Bourgeois. Having collaborated on the album cover of Love is the Currency, Julien and Aude were the natural pairing for Alessi's new video.

DLD captures the closing of British summertime on the beautiful Isle of Wight. Weaving through the hills and along the coast, the video follows two strangers while they independently traverse the same route through a Victorian seaside town. For a moment, their paths intersect. However, the strangers never actually meet.

The video closes as Alessi discovers a photograph of the two strangers together, looking out to sea, and we're left wondering whether the photo is a premonition of the two strangers eventually finding one another.

Hailing from Hammersmith, Alessi Laurent-Marke takes influence from bands such as Broken Social Scene to incorporate electronic elements into folk songwriting. Her work has seen her tour with the likes of Laura Marling, Jenny Lewis, M. Ward and John Grant.

Alessi’s Ark will be performing a string of live dates across the UK in Spring 2018 following a tour of Japan as well as a US stint with Jake Bellows (Neva Dinova / Whispertown).

Love Is The Currency is the fourth studio full-length from Alessi’s Ark

ALESSI’S ARK
Love Is The Currency is the fourth studio full-length from Alessi’s Ark, arriving over four years on from LP3, The Still Life.

“The core theme of Love Is The Currency is our limitless ability to heal one another though music, healthy love, healing frequencies and working through previously unprocessed grief,” explains Alessi. “With ‘Cut The Cord’, I wanted to make a song that could encourage people to save themselves from fear and the grip of toxicity’s many guises.”

Long-time Maccabees engineer Jago Jago produces ‘Love Is The Currency,’ with Will White (brother of Maccabees members Felix and Hugo) helping co-write. Jago Jago’s brother Memby is on drums, with the aforementioned Felix White contributing guitar on “Wives”.
