Methyl Ethel Release New Album 'Triage' on 4AD

METHYL ETHEL
RELEASE NEW ALBUM TRIAGE ON 4AD
Early praise for Triage:

"’Real Tight’ is one of the most pop-adjacent tracks he’s ever made, complete with a swelling chorus and some of the most achingly personal lyrics in the Methyl Ethel canon." - Noisey

"The track builds layers of lively, danceable art-pop with their funky bass line, urgent synths and quirky vocals while adding the vibrant eccentricities and soaring melodies that we’ve come to expect from one of Australia’s most essential current bands." - Paste

"Methyl Ethel is one of Australia's weirdest, most beguiling bands, with its endlessly creative frontman Jake Webb nimbly leaping between sounds that draw upon classic pop, shoegaze, and R&B....and now the CoSigned act is back with a thrilling new song." -Consequence of Sound

"It’s got a sharp, ’80s new wave-ish backdrop, but main member Jake Webb brings it into the now with a catchy vocal performance that fans of MGMT and Phoenix might dig." -Brooklyn Vegan

“Choc-a-bloc with hooks and head-nodding electro-pop from the get-go, Methyl Ethel have reached great new heights with this stellar effort.” - DIY (4/5 stars)

“Polymath prince Jake Webb has landed a perfect triple axel with Methyl Ethel’s album, Triage. It’s the WA band’s third faultless LP, a record that signs off on a songwriting chapter where Webb ‘got obsessed with a lot of theory, essentially the core of it is trying to discover what it is about songs and why they work.’ And, oh they work.” - The Herald Sun (5/5 stars)

“Their finest work yet.” - The Line of Best Fit (8.5/10)

“Quite dazzling.” - NME

Australian pscyhe-pop band Methyl Ethel release their remarkable new album Triagetoday on 4AD. Written, produced and performed by lead singer Jake Webb, and recorded in his home studio, Triage marks the Perth, Australia band’s third album. Buy or stream the album HERE.

With the creation of Triage, Webb felt a sense of closure - completing the triptych of his three releases. Methyl Ethel has always been a surrealist outfit - a dark and obscured expression of life set to the backdrop of dream pop hooks. But this is a more reflective album - one that explores the notion of coming of age, only to reference it for the snapshots and passing memories that it has become.

Methyl Ethel is the musical project of Jake Webb. As a live band it expands to a five piece and includes Thom Stewart, Chris Wright, Lyndon Blue and Jacob Diamond. Methyl Ethel has enjoyed phenomenal successes over the last years. In their home country of Australia, 'Ubu' became an ARIA Accredited Gold single earlier this year off the back of landing at #4 in triple j's 2017 Hottest 100. The band have clocked up over 25 million Spotify streams alone and all of their tour dates in Australia and the UK since 2016 have sold out.

Methyl Ethel have announced a North American tour in March 2019. Highlights include The Echo in Los Angeles on March 19th and Elsewhere in Brooklyn on March 29th. Visitmethylethel.com for more details.
