On Tuesday, September 5th, World Cafe and NPR Music will present a First Listen Live performance with The National. The band will perform its new album Sleep Well Beast live from Union Transfer in Philadelphia beginning at 8pm ET. Tickets for the show are on sale now HERE. Talia Schlanger of World Cafe and Bob Boilen of NPR Music will co-host a live, audio-only broadcast available to NPR Member stations across the country. The concert will also stream live for music fans worldwide on NPR.org/music.

The National claimed their first #1 at commercial radio on the Triple-A radio chart with"The System Only Dreams in Total Darkness" and recently shared the track "Carin at the Liquor Store." Both songs, along with the previously released "Guilty Party" are off the band's seventh studio album Sleep Well Beast out September 8th on 4AD. Sleep Well Beast is available for pre-order and will be available in CD, digital and double LP formats.

The National will head out on tour in September - U.S. stops include Forest Hills Stadium in New York on October 6, The Hollywood Bowl on October 11 and Greek Theater in Berkeley on October 14. In advance of the tour The National have played Glastonbury in the second to headlining slot on the mainstage ("Could The National Be Glastonbury's Next Headliners?" said the NME review ), performed two intimate nights in the round at Hudson's Basilica and will play this weekend at Haven Festival in Copenhagen. PRAISE FOR SLEEP WELL BEAST
"The National's upcoming full-length, Sleep Well Beast, is shaping up to be the best album the band has done." - NPR

"Sleep Well Beast is a towering achievement." - Under the Radar

"One of the most consistent bands out there today is The National who continues to make music that inspires and moves the soul. No matter where you are, you hear a song by The National, you know you are listening to something real." - MXDWN

"'The System Only Dreams in Total Darkness' blends elements of the National's signature indie rock anthems with a shot of disco funk. A shuffling drum beat and a grimy guitar loop mix with a slow-burning blend of piano, synths and horns that rise at the end..." - Rolling Stone

"'Guilty Party' is an instant National classic; a brooding, longing love song of defeat, with a haunting melody that lingers in your head long after the song is over." - WXPN

"Like the best the band has to offer, 'Carin at the Liquor Store' is a song brimming with emotional depth." - Substream Magazine
