New Zealand/LA based indie electronic trio, Space Above, debuted their full-length albumStill today. Consequence of Sound streamed the album, calling it "winning examples of when indie electronic music taps into the perfect balance of accessibility and adventurism."
Space Above is the side project of Aaron Short, the New Zealand artist best known as producer and keyboardist for The Naked and Famous. Alongside fellow kiwis, Sam McCarthy (BOYBOY) and Maddie North (So Below), Space Above strays from pop structures in an exploration of darker, journey-focused, electronic music. Blending atmospheric melodies with intoxicating, electronic twists, Space Above creates an other-worldly soundscape.

Aaron Short offered insight into the creation of Still, saying:
"This record was born out of chaos, and an anxious mind searching for a place where it could stop the noise and be present in the moment.
It was written off the back of the second album cycle for The Naked And Famous, where things had become very challenging on the road... I teamed up with a very close friend, roommate and meditation mentor, Sam McCarthy. We both shared such a strong love for the deeper electronic cuts of the world. Sam and Maddie’s lyrical concepts so perfectly matched the feelings of the record's instrumentation.
There were no rules behind the creation of the record, it came from a very innocent place. Song parts were raw and unpolished, with aggressive sounds crashing into incredibly soft, vulnerable moments… it felt great.
All the songs seemed to return to the calm hidden within the storm. The temporary nature of life, giving in to things that aren’t in your control, the reminder that when you think you have the world figured out, you absolutely don’t."
Prior to the album, Space Above released a video for "Fall Through" and well-received single "Let It Still" earlier this year. Links are below.
