The Regrettes: "Feel Your Feelings, Fool"

 New Music Friday
The Regrettes release debut record,
"Feel Your Feelings Fool!"
available via Warner Bros. Records | ► listen here

"The Regrettes are a product of 2016, the sound of young, socially aware people sharing their frustration and elation with heavy energy and a no-fucks-given attitude. They are also the band you want to hear if you're intent on keeping that spirit alive in 2017. The songs on "Feel Your Feelings Fool!" are smart, occasionally sarcastic and oftentimes quite endearing."

Friday the 13th - unlucky for some, but monumental for others. LA based band The Regrettes fall into the later category as they unleash today their debut record, "Feel Your Feelings, Fool!" via Warner Bros. Records. Why today of all days? Outspoken 16 year old and band front woman, Lydia Night explains -

"Friday the 13th is my lucky day," she explains. "It all started when I was born on the first Friday the 13th of the millennium on a full moon in October. Pretty spooky shit. Ever since then, Friday the 13th and the 13th in general has always brought me wonderful days. I met Mike Elizondo on January 13th 2016 so to release our record on January 13th 2017 is SO COOL.“

This enthusiasm that seeps from Lydia is carried through every barbed wire guitar riff, every doo-wop harmony and every jarring lyric of "Feel Your Feelings, Fool!". Night, along with bandmates, Genessa Gariano on guitar, Sage Chavis on bass and drummer Maxx Morando, have left the LA rock scene floored since forming in 2015 after meeting at School of Rock.

Writing songs that proudly bear a brazen and unabashed attitude in the vein of acts Distillers or X Ray Spex, with a pop aesthetic reminiscent of 50’s and 60’s acts a la the Temptations or Buddy Holly - the perfectly imperfect punk rockers have a knack for writing infectious, punk driven tracks.

The Regrettes had an explosive 2016, experiencing a year that even the most jaded of rockers couldn't imagine. The band were hand picked to open for acts like Sleigh Bells, Taco Cat, Cherry Glazer, Bleached, Pins and more and garnered critical acclaim on a handful of singles. Catching the attention of NPR, Brooklyn Vegan, The Observer, Vogue, Noisey and more, NYLON heralded them as a “punk act you should be listening to”.

From the opening moments of "Feel Your Feelings, Fool!" we’re greeted with a wall of guitars, infectious melodies and an "I-don't-give-a-f**k-" attitude that continues right until the final notes of the album. From the feminist anthem, "A Living Human Girl," to the quieter, at times shoegazey moments of "Bronze," and the nostalgic surf-rock vibes of, "Hey Now", each track is essentially a diary entry into 16 year old Lydia’s life.

“My music is a spectrum of every emotion that I have felt in the last year, and you can hear that when you hear the songs. Everything that is happening in my life influences me. It’s everything from boys, to friends, to being pissed off at people, to being really sad. Just everything.”

Perhaps the most enticing draw of the band, their utter disregard for what others think of them. “I am not scared of anyone judging me, I don’t care. I don’t give a fuck if someone doesn’t like what I have to say. For every person that likes you, there’s a person that doesn’t like you. No matter what, if people can relate to the music then it’s worth it. That’s what is cool for me.”

And at the end of the day, isn’t that what punk music is all about?
