Early praise for Sunflower Bean + Human Ceremony:
"Three and a half minutes of impossibly jangly guitar bliss and sweet-dreams vocals make ['Easier Said'] the best thing we've heard yet from the New York psychedelic-rock trio..." - Rolling Stone

"The music is both restrained and aggressive...but like a lot of great rock'n'roll, it's also catchy, compelling, and concise." - Pitchfork

"Made up of old souls in photogenic forms, this teenage psychedelic rock trio mixes metal-influenced guitar squall with Arctic New Wave vocals..." - New York Times
"...this band is full of surprises and shifts. There's an exhilarating feeling seeing this band live; I got the impression that they even surprised each other during the performance." - NPR's All Songs Considered
"Another killer track...one of the band's best songs to date." - The FADER
"In a haze of distorted guitars and psych-rock come Sunflower Bean, the Brooklyn trio who make wonderful, reverb-soaked music about things they are too young to even romanticize...['Easier Said'] sparkles and glitters, only a fleeting glimpse of a very promising record. - Stereogum

Sunflower Bean are gearing up to release one of the best debut albums of 2016, and starting today - one week ahead of release - the record is streaming exclusively via RollingStone.comPRESS HERE to listen to Human Ceremony, Sunflower Bean's absolutely brilliant debut LP, now.

PRESS HERE to pre-order Human Ceremony on CD or vinyl, and HERE on iTunes. The album is out on February 5th via Fat Possum.

Sunflower Bean got their start in the DIY New York scene, but the band quickly began to accelerate into one of the foremost up-and-coming bands nationally and overseas. Since the band's inception in 2013, Sunflower Bean have toured U.S. and Europe opening for the likes of DIIV, Best Coast, Wolf AliceThe Vaccines and more, as well as wowed audiences at festivals includingCMJ, SXSW, Beach Goth, and UK's Great Escape. Human Ceremony's forthcoming release and Sunflower Bean's massive upcoming U.S. and EU tour cement the fact that Sunflower Beanhas arrived.

Drawing inspiration from a vast pool of influences such as Black Sabbath and The CureSunflower Bean refine their sound and take it to the next level on Human Ceremony.  It is a crystalline, bright, sparkling record, tipping its cap to the likes of The Vaselines, The Velvet Underground, The Feelies, and more, loaded with an innate artfulness that belies the band's young age:  all three members are under 21. Written in drummer Jacob Faber's basement in Long Island - where the band got its start back in high school - and recorded in Brooklyn with producer Matt Molnar (Friends), Human Ceremony's 11 tracks came together in just seven days.   Having leapt out of the gate as a formidable live band, Sunflower Bean's incomparable stage energy settles perfectly into the grooves of its finely crafted debut album.  From the cascading guitar riffs in woozy album opener "Human Ceremony," to the surging "Come On," to Cumming's gliding, sky-high harmonies on "Easier Said" and more, on Human CeremonySunflower Bean's spell is cast.

Sunflower Bean are: Jacob Faber [drums], Julia Cumming [vocals/bass], and Nick Kivlen[vocals/guitars].

The Raveonettes Release "This World Is Empty (Without You) Track

DANISH DUO ANNOUNCE THE JAN 29th RELEASE OF
‘THIS WORLD IS EMPTY (WITHOUT YOU)’

THE FIRST TRACK IN THEIR 12 MONTHLY
RAVE-SOUND-OF-THE-MONTH SERIES

The Raveonettes have always strived to do things their own way both creatively and stylistically. 2016 is no different, and Sune Rose Wagner and Sharin Foo are about to release a brand new track entitled ‘This World Is Empty (Without You)’ as part of a series of releases. The band have created an official RAVE-SOUND-OF-THE-MONTH playlist where they’ll be uploading a freshly recorded track every month from now until the end of the year. They’re breaking with the norm and creating what they’re labelling an 'anti-album'. A collection of songs that aren't bound by the constraints of the format. A 12-month expedition, potentially schizophrenic and disjointed, potentially cohesive and related. How does March 2016 sound?! We have no idea. But it’s a gas. Join us for the Rave-sound-of-the-month and subscribe to the playlist.”

Sune Rose Wagner said of ‘This World Is Empty (Without You)’, “Writing a simple song's super hard and challenging so it took awhile for this one to be just right. The music, the words, the vibe, everything has to be just perfect. It’s one of the only songs I’ve ever written where adding a guitar simply didn’t work, not sure why, just happens I guess. The beat is my take on an 80’s Freestyle beat ala Debbie Deb, and the overall vibe of the song is much darker for sure” The duo’s aim is to capture the moment on record and they’re looking to take music lovers on this journey of personal highs and lows throughout the year with them. The Raveonettes kick it all off today – Friday 29th Jan – and will follow this track up on the last Friday of every month until December, when they’ll deliver the final track of this exciting body of work.

Wet is also bringing their intimate, signature sound to their first ever headlining tour, which kicked off on January 25th with a homecoming show in their native Massachusetts (see full list of dates below) and runs through Mid-February. The 14 city North American trek has become one of the most sought after live shows of the new year, with tickets selling out within hours of being released for their three New York City area shows (1/6, 1/28 & 29), as well as the tour’s two final shows in Los Angeles (2/15 & 2/16). The trio most recently came off a hugely successful 23 city North American fall tour in support of Canadian singer/songwriter Tobias Jesso Jr.

Hailed for their boundless emotional pop well documented by the New York Times, Spin, the Guardian, NPR, and multiple other media outlets, Wet has been greeted with a rousing response. The album’s opening track, “It’s All in Vain,” soared to #1 on Hype Machine and cracked the upper tier of the Spotify Viral 50 chart, with Entertainment Weekly noting the track in its ‘12 Songs To Hear Now.’ Complexnamed “Weak” among the ‘Best Songs of 2015’ and Disco Naivete anointed the evocative song as the #1 ‘Best Song of 2015.’ “Deadwater” was included on NPR’s prestigious ‘Favorite Songs of 2015’ list, with the radio network highlighting the band on NPR’s World Café 2016 Preview, citing their music as “profoundly emotional.”

Media tastemakers have reached a mutual consensus on the band’s rapid rise, with PopCrush citing the trio among the ‘Best New Artists of 2015,’ Pandora forecasting them as an ‘Artist To Watch in 2016’ and Consequence Of Sound including their upcoming debut effort in their list as one of the ‘50 Most Anticipated Albums Of 2016.’  Don’t You includes 11 tracks and was recorded in a rented house in the wooded confines of Hadley, Massachusetts where the band relocated to focus on the project.  The trio is comprised of the enigmatic Kelly Zutrau and multi-instrumentalists Joe Valle and Marty Sulkow.

Wet met through mutual friends as college students in New York City in 2007. After a few years of informal collaboration (Zutrau came to New York to study painting), they didn’t declare their official musical intentions until the summer of 2012. After releasing a few songs on SoundCloud, including the acclaimed "Don't Wanna Be Your Girl," the band began attracting a diverse and loyal following.  Their critically hailed self-titled debut EP garnered industry-wide attention and paved the path for their forthcoming major label release, Don’t You, to be made available everywhere on January 29.

TROUBLEMAKERS Opens at New Laemmle Monica Film Center on Feb 5th

OPENS FEBRUARY 5 IN LOS ANGELES
at the NEW LAEMMLE MONICA FILM CENTER
Now Playing Nationally
Los Angeles showtimes: Daily @ 12:40, 2:50, 5:00, 7:20 & 9:30
Director James Crump will participate in a Q&A after the 7:20 PM screening on 2/5
James Crump's definitive doc on land art features works by Michael Heizer,
Robert SmithsonWalter De MariaNancy HoltDennis Oppenheim & more
One Cut, One Life posterFollowing its East Coast Premiere at the 53rd New York Film Festival, and a hold over in New York at IFC Center, TROUBLEMAKERS: THE STORY OF LAND ART will open at the Laemmle Monica Film Center in Los Angeles on February 5, 2016. Click here for a complete list of playdates.

Troublemakers unearths the history of land art in the tumultuous late 1960s and early 1970s. The film features a cadre of renegade New York artists that sought to transcend the limitations of painting and sculpture by producing earthworks on a monumental scale in the desolate desert spaces of the American southwest. Today these works remain impressive not only for the sheer audacity of their makers but also for their out-sized ambitions to break free from traditional norms.

The film casts these artists in a heroic light, which is exactly how they saw themselves. Iconoclasts who changed the landscape of art forever, these revolutionary, antagonistic creatives risked their careers on radical artistic change and experimentation, and took on the establishment to produce art on their own terms.

Troublemakers includes rare footage and interviews which unveil the enigmatic lives and careers of storied artists Robert Smithson (Spiral Jetty), Walter De Maria (The Lightning Field) and Michael Heizer (Double Negative); a headstrong troika that established the genre. As the film makes clear, in making works that can never be possessed as an object in a gallery, these troublemakers stand in marked contrast to the hyper-speculative contemporary art world of today.

Troublemakers features Germano Celant, Walter De Maria, Michael Heizer, Dennis Oppenheim, Robert Smithson, Nancy Holt, Vito Acconci, Virginia Dwan, Charles Ross, Paula Cooper, Willoughby Sharp, Pamela Sharp, Lawrence Weiner, Carl Andre, Gianfranco Gorgoni, and Harald Szeemann.

Director James Crump made his directorial debut at the 2007 Tribeca Film Festival with Black White + Gray, featuring the influential and legendary curator and art collector Sam Wagstaff and artist Robert Mapplethorpe. In 2013, Black White + Gray was named among Blouin ArtInfo's 20 Must-Watch Artist Documentaries. A curator and art historian, Crump is also the author or co-author of numerous books and has published widely in the fields of modern and contemporary art. Troublemakers is his second feature documentary.

RATATAT DEBUT NEW MUSIC VIDEO FOR “SUPREME”

RATATAT DEBUT NEW MUSIC VIDEO FOR “SUPREME

Today Ratatat released a self-directed video for “Supreme,” a song off their latest album Magnifique (out now on XL Recordings).  The duo recently completed a global tour, which included stops in Hong Kong, Singapore, Australia, and India. The video, shot by Evan Mast of Ratatat, includes footage from their transatlantic travel on the tour.

Watch the music video for “Supreme” here: https://youtu.be/ZZlzC1qQH0k

Ratatat’s 5th studio album saw the duo return to their core guitar-driven sound, yet on tracks like “Supreme,” the band experimented with slide guitar as an homage to artists like Santo & Johnny and Peter Drake. Mast explains further, “we wanted to borrow something from those classics sounds, but bring it into the present - to make a song that could’ve existed if that style of music had remained popular and kept evolving up until today. “

RATATAT recently completed a North American tour, shared a video for “Pricks Of Brightness” and made their late TV debut on Last Call with Carson Daly performing “Abrasive” and “Shempi,” Cream On Chrome” and “Pricks Of Brightness” for the show.

Killer Mike shares conversation with Tommie Smith

KILLER MIKE SHARES CONVERSATION WITH FORMER OLYMPIAN
TOMMIE SMITH

Killer Mike is sharing a conversation with former Olympian and American Civil Rights Leader Tommie Smith via Mike's YouTube channel.

In the 1968 games, Tommie Smith made history by winning the 200m sprint in under 20 seconds. Removing his PUMA Suedes, he stepped onto the medal podium in black socks to represent poverty and slavery, and raised his fist - "to stand up for human rights and to stand up for black Americans." With that gesture, Tommie Smith altered the course of history and dedicated his life to change.

Highasakite Reveal New Single "Someone Who'll Get It" via The Fader

REVEAL NEW SINGLE ‘SOMEONE WHO’LL GET IT’
FROM FORTHCOMING SOPHOMORE LP | SOLD OUT LONDON SHOW FEB 9
*NEW SHOWS ANNOUNCED*

“A dark and pummelling pop song that finds Håvik
yearning for companionship.” –
The FADER

In many ways, it’s a coming of age, though not by way of conceited or complacent clarity. There’s no enlightenment. Quite the opposite, really. Here is a cry for affinity. Understanding. Someone Who'll Get It.

Norway’s Highasakite return with perhaps their darkest offering to date, unveiling new single‘Someone Who’ll Get It’ – the first lifted from the band’s highly-anticipated sophomore LP, slated for release this year. It ricochets; it resonates, with Highasakite’s signature battalion in full force.  Stream/embed the track below...

The single lands ahead of Highasakite’s first ever UK headline at London’s Hoxton Hall onFebruary 9, with tickets having *SOLD OUT* just days after general announce. A new London show is announced at Village Underground on May 24, alongside a string of headline performances in DublinManchester and Amsterdam; tickets on sale this Friday, January 29– full dates below.

‘Someone Who’ll Get It’ hints to the brooding premise of Highasakite’s forthcoming album, serving a worthy successor to debut LP ‘Silent Treatment’ – an effort applauded on both sides of the Atlantic and now claiming the record for longest consecutive run in Norwegian chart history, having spent 94 weeks in the Top 40. Championed by the likes of PitchforkNME and The Guardian‘Silent Treatment’ has achieved international acclaim since its release in February 2014; awarded 2x Norwegian Grammys, an IMPALA Nomination (European Independent Album of the Year), a Triple J Hottest 100 (AUS) placing with single Since Last Wednesday and Album/Single of the Year listings on NPR (US).

Upon first listen, ‘Someone Who’ll Get It’ presents somewhat sinister, but not without context: “The gunshots make more sense if you hear the new album as a whole,” explains vocalist Ingrid Helene Håvik. “The theme of the album is war and terrorism. Not the war at home, like ‘Silent Treatment’, but what is going on in the world right now.”

Despite loose political commentary, the album is without agenda. The intention is not to persuade or invade but more so, an attempt to make sense of the inner turmoil born of external unrest. “It’s not a political album in the sense that I want people to side with specific party or mindset, but it has been central in my life,” Håvik says. “There are not many love songs on the album, because I haven't been in that state of mind for a long time. Global warming and war have been my main concern.”

The band has been touring nearly non-stop since the spring of 2014, including dates with Of Monsters and Men (UK/EU/US), London Grammar (US) and a 10,000 capacity show atSverresborg Arena, Trondheim late last year.
