Yann Tiersen Remixed By Mogwai, New Tour Dates

“stone-cold masterpiece” – Uncut

"Proving to be a consistently inventive talent" - Under The Radar

Mogwai have given Yann Tiersen’s ‘A Midsummer Evening’ a magical electronic remix, listen here.

The original track, described by The Quietus as “sunny, baroque pop”, is the first to be taken from Tiersen’s brand new album, ∞ (Infinity), out on May 20th, 2014.

On Monday, May 5th Yann Tiersen will be broadcasting a very special show from an extraordinary secret location. Watch the live stream from www.yanntiersen.com at 8pm CET / 7pm BST / 2pm EST (please contact us for Embed Codes).

Yann Tiersen has announced European tour dates at the end of September and throughout October, following his headline show at the Royal Festival Hall on 26 September. These follow a US tour in May / June, and the exhaustive list of dates start in May with shows in Spain, France and a sold out performance at the ICA on 14 May – the first chance for fans to hear the new album in its entirety – and a Rough Trade East instore performance on Friday 16 May, his first since the massively oversubscribed RTE appearance in 2011.

∞ (Infinity) was conceived in Iceland, where work began on the album, and in Ushant Island, Brittany. The album was produced by Yann Tiersen and mixed by Gareth Jones with Yann Tiersen and Daniel Miller.

Layering of textures formed thematic threads that bind the album: the stones, the minerals, their infinite nature... Language too is integral to this album. ‘Ar Maen Bihan’, a story written by Emilie Quinquis in the Breton language, was translated by amiina to Icelandic (‘Steinn’). Elsewhere on the album Aidan Moffat (Arab Strap) and Ólavur Jákupsson (a member of Tiersen’s live band) both contributed tracks on the same theme – stones – Moffat’s in English and Jákupsson’s in Faroese.

Hailing from Brittany, Yann Tiersen is one of the most revered artists of his generation with a reputation first established by his studio albums (which included 1997 Cascade Street 1998’s The Lighthouse andto 2005’s Les Retrouvailles). The early albums were combined and used for theAmelie soundtrack (2001), earning him global recognition. Recent albums on Mute, Dust Lane(2010) and Skyline (2011) have seen his prominence build, along with projects such as the recent live score to the Fantômasseries which he curated at the Théâtre de Châtelet with guests Tim Hecker, James Blackshaw, Loney Dear and Amiina.

Washed Out: Updated Tour Dates

Washed Out Announces More Tour Dates In Support ofParacosm
Collaborates With KEEP Footwear For Limited-Edition Shoe

(April 30th, 2014) Washed Out will resume his late spring & early summer tour schedule this May in support of his acclaimed second album, Paracosm. The next leg of touring begins with a performance on Saturday, May 24th in George, WA at Sasquatch and currently ends on Sunday, June 22nd in Dover, DE at the Firefly Festival.  Highlights include: Sunday, June 1st in Houston, TX for Free Press Summer Fest; Friday, June 6th in New York, NY for Governors Ball; Sunday, June 8th in Toronto, ON for Field Trip; Friday, June 13th in Manchester, TN for Bonnaroo; Thursday, June 19th in Dufur, OR at WTF?! What The Festival.  Please find a list of current dates below.

Washed Out won over audiences at the sold-out Coachella weekends earlier this month. The Nerdistsaid of the set, “He played “New Theory” and “Feel It All Around” with beautiful live-show arrangements we weren’t used to on his record. It reminded me of how The National does it. Their albums are quietly beautiful, but when you put them on a stage, they rock hard. Washed Out glorified their album to make the Gobi tent the place to be.” Meanwhile, Yahoo Music said of the sets, “Washed Out tapped into a magic formula, confidently balancing electronics with acoustic and electric guitars and analog drums. Ringleader Ernest Greene looked casual in a striped button-down shirt, and struck just the right balance between producer/mastermind and Southern gentleman (he's originally from Georgia). "This is our first time here at Coachella, and we're very excited to be here with y'all," he said. Playing several tracks from their 2013 sophomore album, Paracosm, they added some surprising screeching guitars, which gave the usually mellow tunes some serious teeth.”

In further exciting news,  Washed Out recently stopped by Last Call with Carson Day to perform theParacosm songs “All I Know” and “It All Feels Right,” along with Life of Leisure tracks “New Theory” and “Feel It All Around” (see Friday February 28th + Tuesday April 29th appearances).

Washed Out’s Ernest Greene has also teamed-up with vegan shoe company KEEP for a limited-edition shoe design. The shoes will hit shelves by mid-September, and purchasers will also score two previously unreleased Washed Out tracks as a bonus gift. Past KEEP artist collaborations include Animal Collective, Bon Iver, Dinosaur Jr, among others. You can now pre-order the shoes viawww.keepcompany.com now (through May 12th).

Paracosm is now available in North America on Sub Pop and in Europe via Weird World. The album, featuring the singles (and videos) for  “All I Know,” “It All Feels Right,” and “Don’t Give Up,” was recorded by Ernest Greene with returning producer Ben Allen in Athens and Atlanta, Georgia.

What People Are Saying About Washed Out:
“It’s a realm of leisurely melodies and keyboard chords that wash in and drift away, of calm vocal harmonies and burbling electronics, of lavishly blended acoustic and electronic instruments and echoes of reassuring pop from past eras...Paracosm sounds warmer, more enveloping; precisely because it’s so much more spacious, it’s cozier.” [Playlist] - New York Times
“A sun-dappled, intricately layered, indie pop beauty.” [#2 / “Must List”] - Entertainment Weekly
"Greene's meticulous creations are still slow-rolling and thickly layered, but this time he and returning Animal Collective producer Ben Allen slather on less futuristic sounds: Mellotron, bongos, children laughing. Harplike arpeggios herald the beginning of the title track like the launch of a Technicolor reverie, but the nine-song LP’s dreamiest tune is ”All I Know,” a nostalgic stunner that glows like a jar of fireflies." [Review, 3.5/5 Stars] - Rolling Stone
“...Eerily beautiful” [Review, 3/4 stars] -  USA Today
“There’s something so distinctly summery about the Washed Out sound...the much-anticipated follow-up Paracosm seems as essential to the season as flip-flops and sunscreen...But unlike Washed Out’s previous efforts, in which frosty digital-age samples and drum machines served as the sonic backbone,Paracosm has a lush, natural feel, beginning with a bird-chirping, harp-scaling overture inspired by the rural Georgia retreat.” [Feature]  - Vogue
Paracosm is a beautiful, beautiful album.” [Review, 88%] - FILTER
“It All Feels Right” bumps with light reggae upticks before momentarily collapsing into a sunstroke, while “Great Escape” leans off the beat just enough to generate a little bit of Southern soul…However, Greene is growing in terms of melodic construct, as the chorus of “Don’t Give Up” is the strongest and trickiest he’s ever written." [Review] - Pitchfork

TOY Premiere 'As We Turn' Video

TOY Premiere 'As We Turn' Video On NYLON, On US Tour Including Austin Psych Fest

"Join The Dots" LP Out Now On Heavenly Recordings

US Tour Dates
Apr 29 - Portland, CA - Doug Fir
Apr 30 - San Francisco, CA - The Chapel
May 1 - Los Angeles, CA - The First Unitarian Church (SOLD OUT) *
May 4 - Austin, TX - Austin Psych Fest
May 5 - Brooklyn, NY - Baby's All Right
May 6 - New York, NY - Mercury Lounge
*w/ The Horrors

To celebrate their US tour TOY have released the Julian Hand directed video for 'As We Turn'.
"The points of reference for the As We Turn video came mostly from early animations we'd seen. Mary Ellen Bute's first color film Synchromy No.4 'Escape' from 1938 was an influence as well as some John Whitney footage. Both use unusual early techniques but achieve something otherworldly and I think that's what we wanted to try and do. Julian Hand also brought in the idea of using chromotropes which are 19th century kaleidoscopic slides which you wind so they turn. Henri Georges-Clouzot's unfinished film "L'enfer" was another reference." --Panda, TOY

TOY have quickly established a sound that is as modernistic as it is faithful to the spirit of psychedelia of decades past, marrying sophisticated chord progressions with a cornucopia of effects, enigmatic lyricism and driving Motorik rhythms.
Their sophomore record Join The Dots is out now via Heavenly Recordings.
The band admit to enjoying playing late at night to people in altered states, and in turn the tracks are frequently altered: instrumental sections in particular are structured freely, enabling the band to exploit the bleed and feedback of each venue to produce endless variations of the same songs.
As with their debut, Join The Dots was recorded mostly live with Dan Carey at the helm, although increased studio time has enabled the band to experiment more with Carey's laboratory of effects and pre-amps, and embellish the tracks with overdubs. The album is both a companion to and extension of the electric blueprint plotted out on TOY, filled as it is with increasingly unpredictable, illuminating sonic ideas and songs that shift and transform with seemingly effortless intricacy.
TOY are: Tom Dougall (vocals / guitar), Dominic O'Dair (guitars), Maxim Barron (bass / vocals), Alejandra Diez (synths / modulations) & Charlie Salvidge (drums / vocals).

Listen to Nikki Lane's New Album "All Or Nothin'" via NPR

Listen to Nikki Lane's New LP All Or Nothin' via NPR First Listen

All Or Nothin’ Out May 6th via New West Records

Listen + Share “Seein’ Double” via Elle.com

Currently on Tour with The Whigs; Old 97's Tour Kicks Off May 5th

Hailed for her “bold, idiosyncratic sound,” NPR has selected Nikki Lane’s forthcoming sophomore album, All Or Nothin’ for a coveted First Listen, joining the likes of Dolly Parton and Lykke Li for this week’s selection. The record, produced by The Black Keys’ Dan Auerbach and out May 6 on New West Records, is streaming in full at NPR.org who exclaimed: “The effect never feels merely nostalgic, and it never seems insincere. Instead, All or Nothin' simply sounds like the work of a performer who knows when to embrace her contradictions: classic and modern, iconoclastic and approachable, country and rock, urban and rural.

NPR’s support comes on the heels of a track premiere with Elle.com for Lane’s “Seein’ Double,” a darkly personal track with surf-twang guitars and a propulsive barbed hook of a chorus. Listen to the song via Elle.

Testament to Lane’s versatility and widespread appeal, she is currently out on the road opening for Athens rockers The Whigs and will immediately follow the tour with a West Coast run supporting alt-country stalwarts the Old 97’s with dates in Los Angeles, San Francisco, Seattle and Portland. The Nashville-based South Carolina-bred chanteuse will tour heavily in support of All Or Nothin’ and just confirmed the Austin City Limits Music Festival in October. Like the thoughts and emotions behind them, Lane’s songs shift and ebb in the live setting but she promises whether she’s playing solo or with a full band she approaches each song “in the most badass way possible.” Full routing is below with many more dates to be announced soon.

With just a week before release, All Or Nothin’ is already starting to make an impact at radio. Early support has come from KEXP, who described the album as “an evocative, moody blend of noirish country-pop, ‘60s girl groups, bluesy garage-rock, spaghetti western and more” as well as SiriusXM’s The Loft, WUMB in Boston and several others.

All Or Nothin’ sees Lane teaming up with some of the finest musicians and songwriters in Nashville to craft an album that fully realizes her musical vision. Produced by Auerbach, who Lane met at her pop-up vintage clothing stall when he wanted to buy the 1940s hunting jacket she was wearing, the rousing collection of songs spans genres and eras and exudes with Lane's characteristic attitude and Southern swagger. “I wrote with so many amazing musicians on this album but Dan was really instrumental in helping me figure out the direction we were going for,” Lane says.

Over 12 tracks, Lane sings tales about misbehaving, wanton desires, heartache, love and lust. "It's always the right time to do the wrong thing," she repeats like a mantra during the infectious opener "Right Time" and that statement defines All Or Nothin' as good as anything will. “I really consider this album to be a Nikki Lane mixtape of my thoughts and the sounds that I’m into so that’s why you can’t put it in a neat box,” Lane says. From the whimsical, dreamy sensation of “I Don’t Care” to the stripped-down acoustic duet with Auerbach, “Love’s On Fire,” to the plaintive ballad “Out of My Mind,” written with former touring partner J. Spaceman of Spiritualized and the woozy, blue-eyed soul of the title track, the album showcases the many sides of Lane and her diverse influences.

Lane’s passion for music is only matched by her passion for fashion, evident from her album cover, which features her decked out in a white fringe dress and gold cape, to her impeccable stage outfits – vintage embrodiered shirts, boots, western attire, and leather motorcycle jackets. The born entrepenuer has parlayed her penchant and knowledge for the clothes of yesteryear into a successful business she calls High Class Hillbilly, a vintage clothing stall she takes around Nashville and out on tour with her, fueling the enterprise with pieces she collects on the road. In addition to selling her own wares, the style maven is highly sought after by clothing and accessory brands; she has worked with Warby Parker, Frye Boots, Minnetonka Moccasins, Billy Reid, TOMS and most recently Vans.

Armed with a compelling album and her fiery personality, Lane is poised to have a breakout year. Just one of the many reasons why CMT singled her out for thier “Next Women of Country” campaign, putting her in the same company as 2013’s artists Kacey Musgraves and Brandy Clark.

Best New Track for ‘Us’ and ‘Like Lust’ - Pitchfork

“When first hearing Movement it would be understandable to assume it was just one producer weaving hazy, smooth sounds while repeating vocal phrases like mantras. But this is a band, and watching them play this music and sing these vocals in front of you is breathtaking.” - Stereogum

“Sydney’s Movement drops what is probably their best song yet (although “Like Lust” continues to creep on us in the best way) in the spectral/sexy new track Ivory” - Gorilla vs Bear
“…(a) swampy mid-tempo jammer with a yearning chord progression and the sort of heavy-chested, late night atmosphere that sounds really nice inside headphones.” – The Fader on ‘Ivory’
Movement have been honing their live show with support slots on tours with Solange and Darkside. Get a taste of what to expect on their upcoming dates via the previously released videos for ‘Us’ and ‘Like Lust’.

Until Silence marks a monumental shift for Roll The Dice, in both sonics and psychogeography. The characteristic framework of piano and synthesiser is reinforced with a newly conscripted string section: dramatic arrangements grind against furnace blasts of static, and phases of unrelenting rhythmic intensity collapse into moments of frayed, fragile beauty. Roll The Dice’s most powerful and nuanced work to date, its tracks are by turns harrowing and searching, pushing the duo’s sound to monolithic, foundation-shuddering heights of ambition, scale and physical weight.
The Stockholm-based duo’s third album is the next chapter in an unfolding historical narrative, which Peder Mannerfelt and Malcolm Pardon began with their acclaimed self-titled debut. That first album chronicles its characters’ pastoral existence in a pre-industrial landscape. OnIn Dust, released in 2011, things had already taken a turn for the nightmarish - its darkened hues and mechanical rhythms trapped their characters in the drudge of working life in a fin de siècle industrial metropolis.
Until Silence opens with the tense piano reverberations of ‘Blood In Blood Out’; the two protagonists have escaped from the mundane grind of the factory floor, landing in a still more perilous situation. They find themselves in the midst of great societal turmoil, with war erupting all around them.
In order to capture that landscape, “we wanted to push the music to extremes,” reveals Mannerfelt. “To make it both harder and darker, but more romantic and emotional at the same time.” To that end the duo enlisted Erik Arvinder to work on string arrangements for several of Until Silence’s tracks, which were then recorded with a 26-piece ensemble. Arvinder’s arrangements further heighten the natural cycles of tension and release that have always been cornerstones of the Roll The Dice sound. During the album’s harshest moments, they sharpen every piano note and rhythmic sub-bass throb so the music cuts jagged from the speakers, while during quieter phases they carve open huge spaces within the music.
Matching their use of orchestral instrumentation, Until Silence also finds Pardon and Mannerfelt pushing their own compositional methods further into uncharted territory. The influence of the duo’s individual projects on the collective sound of Roll The Dice has always been tangible. Pardon, who works as a composer for film and TV, has a natural flair for evocative composition and narrative arc, while Mannerfelt - who has toured as part of Fever Ray and produced techno as The Subliminal Kid - is a remarkably skilled sculptor of electronic sound and bass tones. Mannerfelt’s recent solo explorations under his own name, including the stark and brutalist electronics of his current Lines Describing Circles album, have clearly fed their own energy back into Roll The Dice - with Until Silence, they take the electronic core of their sound into harsher and more heavily processed textural domains.
This greater dynamic range enables them to summon up a complex tangle of sensations, everything from elation to simmering dread, mirroring the conflicted feelings of humans at the mercy of forces beyond their control. “It’s the push and pull of being in the middle of something massive, chaotic and brutal, mixed with feelings of loss and total resignation,” says Mannerfelt. “We wanted to try and portray something like a single human being’s very personal experiences within something of epic and devastating proportions.” With that in mind, continues Pardon, “the idea of the ‘war’ has a very symbolic value, in trying to capture these different emotions, but of course the album is not about a war per se. I mean, everyday life can be like war sometimes; we wanted to capture that somehow.”
Until Silence’s dark and stormy nature undoubtedly strikes a chord at a time when the socioeconomic and political state of affairs gripping Europe and further afield is grim indeed, with austerity programmes, looming economic collapse, and the unsettling rise of far right agendas. Yet throughout, the music is pockmarked with flashes of light where proactive optimism for the future intermingles with nostalgia for fond memories buried beneath the rubble. Combined with its exploratory approach to sound design, these themes and ambiguities make Until Silence a work that feels uniquely of now. That Pardon and Mannerfelt have crafted so ambitious, deep and multifaceted an album isn’t necessarily a surprise given their acclaimed tenure as Roll The Dice to date. With it they continue to stake their position as one of the most fascinating and vital units currently operating in electronic music.
