RINGO DEATHSTARR RIP” VIDEO PREMIERE ON NOISEY!

RINGO DEATHSTARR
RIP” VIDEO PREMIERE ON NOISEY!

NEW ALBUM: “MAUVE” & TOUR IN SEPT.

Aug 31th, 2012- Noisey has premiered the official video for Ringo Deathstarr’s new single “Rip” today. “Rip” is the first offering from the Austin, Texas trio’s forthcoming album Mauve (to be released in North America by Sonic Unyon on Sept 25th). The song is equally distorted and dreamy with bassist Alex Gehring handling vocals. The visuals for the song reflect this with Gehring, Elliott Frazier (guitar/vocals) and Daniel Coborn (drums) taking a Technicolor trip (replete with trails) with the help of some 3-D glasses from their cereal box.

Speaking on the creation of the song, Frazier recounts “Rip’ was the sixteenth and last song we recorded (for Mauve). Alex gave me a demo of herself singing the melody on an unplugged electric guitar. Without the drums, it could have been a Beat Happening song, but I was inspired and played drums on the track. It was created pretty organically and there was never any forethought that it would be the first single.”

Self-produced in Austin and Los Angeles, Mauve follows Ringo Deathstarr’s highly received 2011 LP, Colour Trip. Colour Trip, known for a massively blown out but melodic sound, helped the band to be named a highlight of SXSW 2011 by CNN, Brooklyn Vegan, NPR and Wired. The latter summed up their sound as “the band sounds like it leaped screaming out of My Bloody Valentine's blown amps.”

Rather than trying to raise the dizzying wall of guitar sound on its predecessor, Mauve raises the melodies and dials back the sonic assault while retaining the band’s signature decibel power. Frazier says of this approach “Colour Trip was a great studio album but on Mauve we just wanted to write songs that we would have a blast playing live and could recreate easily on stage.”

The band will be embarking on a five week North American tour this September and October. (Confirmed tour dates below). Album pre-order links is also below including full-length in LP, CD and digital editions via Sonic Unyon for North America and Rip 7” on Electric Blue Vinyl via UK label AC30.
