Geographer "Myth"

GEOGRAPHER UNVEILS MYTH
OUT FEBRUARY 28, 2012 VIA MODERN ART RECORDS

ARRESTING LEAD TRACK "LIFE OF CRIME"
PREMIERES ON PASTEMAGAZINE.COM

geographer

"[One of the] undiscovered bands you need to hear now!" - SPIN

"Pop music hasn't seen such a seamless marriage between techno beats and swooning cello parts since...well, this might just be a first."- San Francisco Chronicle

"A small taster of new material showed a less overtly poppy direction might be coming for this band [Geographer], and a definite growth." - One Thirty BPM

"They [Geographer] manage the rare feat of making music that is catchy without relying on earworm hooks to hold you hostage...These aren't songs that get stuck in your head; they are invited guests that you gratefully allow to become part of you."- mySpoonful

One of 2012's most anticipated albums, Geographer's MYTH drops February 28, 2012 on Modern Art Records. The San Francisco trio, which consists ofvocalist, synth mastermind, and guitarist Mike Deni, cellist Nathan Blaz and drummer Brian Ostreicher, explores new sonic elements to the band's already commanding sound, and gives fans a taste of what's to come with their first astonishing lyrical track "Life of Crime."

"Life of Crime" is exclusively available for a limited time as a FREE download HERE on PasteMagazine.com.

In March 2011 the band signed with Modern Art Records, in partnership with Warner Music's Independent Label Group. MYTH comes on the heels of recent success including touring nationally with Stars and Ladytron, and showcasing at major music festivals Noise Pop and the main stage at Treasure Island Music Festival 2011. Geographer also garnered praise for their shows at SXSW from Huffington Post as, "Buzz Bands of SXSW" and "Bands You SHOULD See at SXSW." KCRW also included Geographer as one of the, "Bands to Watch SXSW 2011." The band's live sound can either spontaneously make a crowd get wild on the dance floor, or completely stand still-enraptured by the music.

After releasing theirhighly acclaimed LP Innocent Ghost and EP Animal Shapes, Geographer teamed up with producer Eli Crews (tUnE-yArDs, Beulah, Why?, Deerhoof) and renowned mixer Chris Zane (Passion Pit, Walkmen, Holy Ghost!, Tokyo Police Club) toscrupulously craft the new record. On MYTH Mike's distinct melodic vocals flirt with dazed synth melodies and alluring guitar riffs; while Nathan's haunting electric cello cords, and Brian's vibrant, powerful drums blend together to create a mind-altering, ten track album that is pulsating with complex polyrhythms and stunning harmonies.

Geographer started with the courageous decision to turn negative circumstances into positive ambitions. In 2008,Mike was escaping strife within his family, and found himself picking up an abandoned synthesizer off the dismal city streets of San Francisco. He started to reinvent himself through the art of music, and then simultaneously met Nathan and Brian, which led to the formation of Geographer.

"We met through a mutual friend at an open-mic at The Hotel Utah shortly after we all moved to San Francisco. I feel like it was like a rite of passage," Mike says. "I didn't have a lot of friends here, and I didn't have a job, so I was just playing all day long. I feel like that really was when I found myself as a songwriter."

With MYTH Geographer has expanded far beyond their San Francisco roots to create a remarkable indie rock album that will appeal to every generation.

Everyday Sunshine: The Story of Fishbone

Everyday Sunshine: The Story of Fishbone

National Broadcast Premiere on

Monday, January 22, 2012

Available as iTunes Exclusive on February 1st
& DVD Release February 22nd

Everyday Sunshine: The Story of Fishbone will have its national broadcast premiere on Monday, January 22nd, 2012 as part of public television's AfroPoP documentary series. The series, produced by the National Black Programming Consortium (NBPC) and co-presented by American Public Television (APT), kicks off it's new season with Everyday Sunshine: The Story of Fishbone, which documents the history of legendary Los Angeles band Fishbone.

The film is being distributed via digital and home video by Cinema Guild, which will present the film exclusively via ITunes starting February 1st, 2012 as part of the celebration of Black History Month and then via home video starting February 22nd, 2012.

When Fishbone first emerged from California, no other band sounded or looked like them, and the weight of their innovative and iconic presence is still being felt decades later. Coinciding with the group’s 25th anniversary, filmmakers Lev Anderson & Chris Metzler have directed a compelling new documentary, narrated by Laurence Fishburne. Everyday Sunshine: The Story of Fishbone is both a fascinating and brutally honest look at the band’s history for longtime fans, as well as a perfect entry point for newcomers.

Everyday Sunshine is a documentary about the band Fishbone, musical pioneers who have been rocking on the margins of pop culture for the past 25 years. From the streets of South Central-Los Angeles and the competitive Hollywood music scene of the 1980's, the band rose to prominence, only to fall apart when on the verge of "making it."

Laurence Fishburne narrates Everyday Sunshine, an entertaining cinematic journey into the personal lives of this unique Black rock band, and an untold story of fiercely individual artists in their quest to reclaim their musical legacy while debunking the myths of young Black men from urban America. Highlighting the parallel journeys of a band and their city, Everyday Sunshine explores the personal and cultural forces that gave rise to California's legendary Black punk sons that continue to defy categories and expectations.

At the heart of Fishbone's story is lead singer Angelo Moore and bassist Norwood Fisher who show how they keep the band rolling, out of pride, desperation and love for their art. To overcome money woes, family strife, and the strain of being aging Punk rockers on the road, Norwood and Angelo are challenged to re-invent themselves in the face of dysfunction and ghosts from a painful past.

The documentary includes interviews with: Gwen Stefani (No Doubt), Flea (Red Hot Chili Peppers), Ice-T (rapper), Branford Marsalis (saxophonist), Perry Farrell (Jane’s Addiction, Porno For Pyros), Questlove (The Roots), and more.

A holiday note from Alessi's Ark

A Holiday Note and Free Download from Alessi’s Ark

Haw River, NC (Dec. 20, 2011) – British songstress Alessi’s Ark has had a banner year. She gained attention after her appearances at South By Southwest and criss-crossed the country opening shows for Paul Weller, Laura Marling and First Aid Kit, as well as headlining on her own. This September also saw the release of her full length US debut, Time Travel, which received four stars from MOJO.

“The quick-hit nature and variety of styles suggest many pleasant paths for Alessi's Ark to travel in the future.” The Washington Post
“Alessi Laurent-Marke’s voice is deeply breathy and almost free of vibrato, rendering her notes fine and pure enough to be white sand from some undiscovered beach.” —Rawkblog

As a way of saying “thanks” Alessi sends these holiday greetings as well as a free download of her cover of The Smiths’ “Please Please Please Let Me Get What I Want.”

Check out the Alessi’s Facebook page
where the download is also located.

Dear Ones Aboard,
I'm wishing you a very happy, cozy, peaceful Christmas and New Year. I hope 2012 beholds much goodness for you! Thank you very much for listening this year, for coming out to shows in your neck of the woods or for travelling further in rain, sun and snow to hear songs and say 'hello'. It has been lovely to meet you at shows and write to you through the window here and in letters.

A little while back, I rode the train up to Liverpool to stay with Jamie Backhouse, of the Ark, and his lovely fiancée Ruth for a few days. We decided to have a go at covering 'Please Let Me Get What I Want' and Jamie thought his friend Edgar would be the right fellow to ask for lending us a hand at recording . Edgar Jones is a very special one, who has made and continues to make all different kinds of music up in Liverpool. He and Jamie have done a fair bit of playing and travelling together over the years and it was very nice listening to them recall Japanese adventures while we recorded. Edgar's place was very cosy and comfortable to play in and I hope that feeling comes out through the recording for you. Hats off the fellows for their fine help and playing!

Above all and under, thank you for being aboard. I look forward to seeing you next year and to sharing more.

Keep well!
Warmly and red beans and ricely yours,
Alessi
